It may not seem so on paper, but Cody Brundage‘s next fight will be the most important fight of his career so far. Although he is taking on a fighter making only his third UFC fight, his opponent Bo Nickal is one of the most hyped fighters in the UFC and has already been hailed as a future champion.
A three-time Division 1 NCAA champion, Nickal already has legends associated with him, such as his story of beating a whole BJJ school on his first day of training in martial arts. And a victory over him at their upcoming UFC 300 clash next month would certainly go a long way toward helping Brundage get to the next level. Cody Brundage married former UFC fighter Amanda Brundage, whom he met at an MMA gym when the South Carolina native was a newcomer to the sport. The two have been blessed with a beautiful baby daughter, Kingsley who is one-year-old as of March 2024.
Unfortunately for the couple, fate dealt them a cruel hand. Little Kingsley was diagnosed with ALS 13, an extremely rare condition that causes muscle weakness and atrophy and triggers seizures and epilepsy. The neurological condition damages nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, which leads to the patient losing significant muscle control and developmental delays.
His wife quit her fighting career to get a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training to take care of their daughter better. Brundage opened up about it in a recent interview and said that he wants to help other parents dealing in similar conditions, cope with the reality of it.
“I don’t mind talking about it, because I feel like I’ve seen successful people who have dealt with similar things, and seeing their success and hearing them talk about it gives me hope, and makes me feel better. Knowing that they’re okay, they’re giving their kid a good life, it makes me feel like I can do the same thing. So if I can be that for anybody else, I want to do that,” he said.
