The mixed martial artists can’t really establish themselves in the highly competitive fighting industry. And when it comes to the UFC, things go haywire pretty quickly. To avoid that and establish oneself as a powerful presence in the fighting community, a fighter requires the backing of a manager. Take Alex Pereira for example. Do you think he could have established himself as the potent presence that he is today had he not taken help from his manager, Jorge Guimaraes? No, right?
Pereira might still have been stuck in that old tire shop. But thanks to the works of Guimaraes, ‘Poatan’ got the guidance, secured great sponsorship deals, and got strong opponents to fight against and make a name for himself. So today, let’s give the managers the praise that they deserve, as we find out all about Pereira’s manager.

Meet Jorge Guimaraes, Alex Pereira’s manager
We can say for sure that Guimaraes is the man who brought Pereira out of his misery, struggling to make a living working at a tire shop. Being the manager, Guimaraes is responsible for securing high octane fights for the light heavyweight champion. And the man with the hands of stone made his job fairly easy. After all, Pereira seldom chose his opponents and was ready to fight whoever the UFC threw at him. So Guimaraes ensured that ‘Poatan’ got massive matchups and received love from all around the world.
Back in 2024, when the world was overflowing with requests for a matchup between Alex Pereira and Magomed Ankalaev, Guimaraes said, ”I don’t think Ankalaev has a chance against ‘Poatan’. A lot of people underestimate his ground skills. And it’s gonna be impossible to Ankalaev to find a distance… Even if you find the distance, if you close the gap, it’s so difficult to take him down. And I think Ankalaev would get knocked out.” This trust in his client further helped him to finally secure a matchup against Ankalaev at UFC 313.
But Guimaraes doesn’t just stick to securing good matchups for his clients. He even helped Pereira with sponsorships too. The light heavyweight champion has received sponsorships from brands like AthletiCBD, OWNIC, and Monster Energy. And most recently, the manager got Pereira endorsed by Aviator. Taking to his YouTube channel, ‘Poatan’ revealed the new sponsor and started the video with the tagline, “Fly high with Aviator, Chama!”

On top of that, he helped ‘Poatan’ train by bringing the Dutch striker Yousri Belgaroui into the camp to help the Brazilian during his title fight against Israel Adesanya at UFC 281. He claimed, “He fought three times with Pereira, and in 2016, he fought twice with Adesanya. He will be really valuable in this camp.” Of course, Pereira is not the only mixed martial artist that Guimaraes manages. Let’s take a look at every name that Pereria’s manager secured fights for. After all, a single champion can’t determine the manager’s success and skills, right?

Other fighters Jorge Guimaraes has managed
The Brazilian MMA manager has clients competing for multiple promotions, including the UFC and PFL. He managed Anderson Silva, Jose Aldo, Patricio ‘Pitbull’ Freire, Lyoto Machida, the UFC flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja, and the former light heavyweight champion and Pereira’s mentor, Glover Teixeira. But the thing that set him apart from most managers is his involvement and support for his clients.
Back when Patricky Freire got the title shot against Usman Nurmagomedov at Bellator 288, people began dissing ‘Pitbull’, claiming that he got handed the title shot from his brother Patricio Freire. But Guimaraes knew that Patricky Freire wanted to shut every mouth at the event and supported him for that. The same goes for the time when Teixeira was set to rematch Jiri Prochazka at UFC 282. He handled the former champion’s anxiety fairly well, even though the bout never really materialized despite all of his tries.

Now, as Pereira gets ready to face Ankalaev, we can safely assume that Guimaraes did everything he could to boost the champion’s confidence and strength. Who knows, he might have brought in a Dagestani grappler to train ‘Poatan’. Well, I guess we’ll have to wait till Saturday to see if the manager’s tricks worked well enough.
Do you think Guimaraes’ management can get Pereira a win against Ankalaev at UFC 313? Let us know what you think in the comments down below.
