The name Nurmagomedov is cited as a legend in the sport of mixed martial arts. After all, it is the surname of one of the greatest to ever do it undefeated former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. And Khabib has cousins and brothers who are also MMA fighters. One, Usman, is even a Bellator champion.

Consequently, when one hears of another Nurmagomedov out of Dagestan, it is natural to assume he belongs to that illustrious clan. However, we would be wrong in the case of bantamweight Said Nurmagomedov, who, despite his last name is not related to Khabib. And as he prepares to take on his next challenge at UFC 294, we take a look at his record and fighting style.

Said Nurmagomedov- losses and record

Said Nurmagomedov has a twenty-fight professional mixed martial arts career. He made his mixed martial arts career in 2009 at World Ultimate Full Contact 15 against undefeated Oscar Nave, who he defeated in the first round by way of an armbar. The Dagestani has fought in various promotions before joining the UFC, including Vale Tudo, Absolute Championship Berkut, and World Fighting Championship Akhmat.

He has three losses and seventeen wins on his record. The first loss of his career came in 2014 at ACB 9 at the hands of Magomed Bibulatov via unanimous decision. His next loss would be in the UFC against Raoni Barcelos in 2019 via unanimous decision on UFC on ESPN+ 23. Four years later, Jonathan Martinez handed him the third loss on his record in 2023 via another unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night: Smith vs. Hill.

What is Said Nurmagomedov’s fighting style?

Said Nurmagomedov is ranked #15 in the UFC’s bantamweight division and has lost his last fight. He is scheduled to face Muin Gafurov at UFC 294 on October 21 in Abu Dhabi, UAE. And while he comes from Dagestan, and the same city, Makhachkala, as Islam Makhachevwhich is known for its excellent wrestlers and combat sambo practitioners, he is not just another wrestler out of Dagestan.

Said does possess the same grappling skills as his compatriots. However, he does have stand-up skills and can go toe-to-toe with good strikers. So confident is he in his striking that he called out bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley, comparing the latter’s fighting style to his and challenged him to a fight back in 2019.
