The UFC welterweight fighter, Daniel Rodriguez, who’s jumping to middleweight this time, has a huge task ahead this weekend. He will square off against former middleweight title contender Kelvin Gastelum in a 3-round high-stakes fight at UFC on ABC 6. But before we get to the fight, we will remove the lid on the people involved in Rodriguez’s camp, especially his coaches and teammates.

Daniel Rodriguez desperately needs a win. He’s on a two-fight losing skid and a loss against Kelvin Gastelum could see him move down the pecking order and distance himself from his title aspirations. But he seems to be in capable hands because he has a highly respectable record of 17 wins and 4 losses. Hence, without any further ado, let’s look at Rodriguez’s training background.

Daniel Rodriguez had a tough upbringing as he was born into a family that had affiliations with gangs. He even spent time inside the four walls of a prison. Nonetheless, Rodriguez would later find his way into MMA, and now, he trains with a famed gym named Syndicate MMA, which has produced countless world-class fighters. Daniel Rodriguez’s head coach, John Wood, was an MMA fighter during the 2000s. Besides him, the UFC fighter also has Jerry and Shane Shapiro as his BJJ coaches, Shane Mosley Jr. as his boxing coach, Chris Tramell as his Muay Thai coach, and Xavier Reyes as his striking coach, among a few more coaches. Rodriguez has also taken time to train at Xtreme Couture MMA gym at times but his true allegiance lies in the Las Vegas-based Syndicate MMA, which reportedly has a total of 12 coaches who look after the adult students’ training and the professional fighters’ training regimens. But who are the other fighters in that gym? Well, there are a few top names who train with Daniel Rodriguez, and now we will take a look at that front.

Who are Rodriguez’s teammates?

To start with Daniel Rodriguez’s teammates, we will talk about the ones who’ve been or are still in the UFC first. Those bunches include light heavyweight contender Khalil Rountree Jr., and then we have the recently retired Roxanne Modafferi, who is one of the few female fighters with more than 40 fights under her belt. Another retired female UFC fighter who’s a member of Rodriguez’s team is the Scottish contender, Joanne Wood. Other former UFC stars in his team include Niklas Stolze and Vincent Morales. Interestingly, Rodriguez has also trained with Sean Strickland and Chris Curtis in Xtreme Couture MMA as well.
