UFC 300 will feature a light heavyweight title fight- Jamahal Hill will fight to reclaim the title he never lost against double champ Alex Pereira in one of the most historic nights for Dana White‘s promotion. Fans know a lot about ‘Poatan’ who captured two belts in just seven UFC fights, but not too much about ‘Sweet Dreams’. So let’s uncover the details about his gym, his coaches, and his teammates!

Having moved to Grand Rapids when he was 12 years old, Jamahl Hill gained prominence in the UFC through the Contender Series. Jamahl Hill started his training at Black Lion Jiu-Jitsu Academy, which was located in the Cutlerville community in Grand Rapids. The gym has both an MMA team and a jiu-jitsu team. ‘Sweet Dreams’, as expected, is a member of the MMA team and is the only UFC fighter among the bunch. The 32-year-old has three coaches for different aspects of the fighting game, named Justin Andrews, Johnny Grigware, and Chad Pomeroy.

First up, Justin Andrews is Jamahal Hill’s grappling coach. He is a black belt, who is also a former Iraqi Marine Corps war veteran, serving his country for 11 years. On the other hand, Johnny Grigware handles Hill’s striking training and Chad Pomeroy is the head coach and the owner of Black Lion Jiu-Jitsu Academy, whom the former UFC champion credits for the discipline he’s developed towards his training over the years. Now that we’re acquainted with Sweet Dreams’ coaching and training details, let’s take a look at the other martial arts athletes whom he trains with at Black Lion.

Hill’s BJJ and MMA teammates

According to Jamahal Hill’s gym website, he has three teammates from the MMA team of the Black Lion Academy. Firstly, Isaiah Podbregar, a relative newcomer to the sport, has had only one fight so far, according to ‘Tapology’. Then we come to Brett Martin, information on whom is not readily available, and then finally Jorge Sarat, who has a record of 1 win and 5 losses.

While there are no other UFC fighters at Black Lion Academy, Jamahal Hill had trained once with fellow light heavyweight contender and former champion Anthony Smith. The 205-pound duo trained together for Hill’s title fight at UFC 283 last year. There is no doubt that training with a veteran was helpful since he went on to win the belt.

Meanwhile, Alex Pereira has been on a tear ever since his last and only UFC defeat at UFC 287! And now we wait to see how things will go down at the historic UFC 300 PPV.
