Apart from the big-time headliner between Islam Makhachev and Dustin Poirier, people aren’t talking much about the other exciting fights that Dana White has prepped up for us at UFC 302. One of those fights will feature Houston native Alex Morono butting heads against Niko Price in the second fight of the main card. Today, we’ll be focussing on that main card fight, especially on Morono and his training background.

After defeating Court McGee in April, Alex Morono is riding high with momentum as he’s making a quick turnaround in less than two months for his upcoming fight against Niko Price this weekend. But how does he prepare and who helps him with that? Let’s have a look at that front.

Despite being an MMA fighter never being a planned move for Alex Morono, he developed a love for the sport at a rather young age. In an interview with Combat Press, the 33-year-old claimed that his first taste of fighting was when, with the help of his parents, he was lucky enough to get introduced to fighting inside the squared circle.

Morono was taking boxing lessons in L.A. Boxing, where he also had his first taste of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Alex Morono also sharpened his BJJ skills under Antonio Flores and Chand Robichaux, who’s a black belt in this discipline. Thereafter, ‘The Great White’ would go on to train at Gracie Barra The Woodlands, where has now become the head coach and trained with Matthew Wald for his striking.

Alex Morono also started training at Fortis MMA in 2018 and still trains there under head coach Sayif Saud even to this day. During all the years of training so far, ‘The Great White’ became a black in BJJ under Vinicius Magalhaes, and also earned a black belt in Taekwondo. But what about the people he trains with? Well, let’s look at all of the teammates of Morono.

Some notable MMA teammates of ‘The Great White’

Having trained in Gracie Barra The Woodlands, Alex Morono found a teammate in UFC bantamweight fighter Ricky Turcios. Following his switch to Fortis MMA, the 33-year-old made teammates like Damon Jackson, Ryan Spann, Diego Ferreira, Alonzo Menifield, and Geoff Neal, to name a few, all of whom are actively competing in the UFC.

If we move over to the other non-UFC teammates, Alex Morono has Saad Awad, Steven Peterson, and Mohammad Fakhreddine, among many others, to help him out during training and vice versa. Hence, it is safe to say that ‘The Great White’ has enough help to get better and prepare for his professional fights given how many accomplished fighters he is teammates with.
