Jon Jones has been avoiding Tom Aspinall ever since the interim heavyweight champ targeted him. ‘Bones’ claimed that the ‘Honey Badger’ was yet to prove himself in the fighting realm and instead wanted a better matchup. But with the entire fanbase pushing Jones to fight the Britisher, it seemed like the undisputed champ had no choice left, but to negotiate with the UFC regarding the fight.
And that’s exactly what he did! Right after defeating Miocic at UFC 309 with a spinning back kick, Jones declared that he wasn’t going to retire. In the post-fight interview, he announced that he would enter negotiations with Dana White and Hunter Campbell, and hinted at a fight that the entire fanbase wanted. Now, following Yoel Romero’s KO victory at Mike Perry’s Dirty Boxing Championship, Jones had a brief conversation with Dave Schmulenson. And he did make some revelations.

Jones told ‘The Schmo’, “Right now, the UFC and I are in talks to see what happens next. I’m back in the gym, I’m training, I feel really great. The team’s support, they’re right behind me, and we’ll just be ready for whatever opportunity comes our way. There is a [money figure], but I’m not going to discuss that publicly. We’ll just have to wait and see… I’ll be competing in 2025, more than likely.”
It does seem like the heavyweight champion’s next title defense would be against Tom Aspinall. As ‘Bones’ revealed that his team and the UFC were in negotiations, Aspinall dropped a major bombshell about his future. Taking to X, the ‘Honey Badger’ wrote, “Plans in place. See you soon,” followed by the US national flag.
The 37-year-old heavyweight champion had previously refused to fight Aspinall. However, he dropped a hint for the UFC to give him “f–k you money” in order to make him fight the Brit. No doubt, Dana White and Co. had to oblige. After all, it was a matchup that Aspinall direly needed to cement his stance in the heavyweight division. As far as Jon Jones was concerned, fighting ‘Honey Badger’ would apparently do him no good, except help him please the fight fans.

At which UFC PPV will Jones vs Aspinall take place?
After he finished Ciryl Gane, Jones declared that he wanted to defend his championship belt at the International Fight Week. ‘Bones’ targeted Stipe Miocic in his post-fight interview at UFC 285. The heavyweight champ wanted the fight to go down at UFC 290. However, things didn’t turn out the way Jones wanted, and Miocic delayed the fight. Needless to say, Jones was pretty upset with how things had turned out and lashed out at ‘Stone Cold’ for dodging him.
In a social media rant, ‘Bones’ said, “Yo Stipe Miocic only you, the UFC, and I know the truth. You dodged me all of 2022 – July, September, December. Now I’m hearing rumors that we may not be fighting this July… Stop wasting everyone’s time.”

The UFC head honcho later announced the fight between Jones and Miocic and scheduled it for UFC 295. But even that failed to materialize as the champ tore his pectoral muscles. Nevertheless, there’s still a chance for Jones to fight at International Fight Week. Taking on the Englishman, International Fight Week, and a huge sum of money probably pushed Jones for the fight, don’t you think?
