At the rate at which Jon Jones‘ UFC career is progressing, it doesn’t seem like the heavyweight champion will be defeated before he retires. Initially, Jones competed out of the light heavyweight division. He was undefeated (except for one loss by DQ to Matt Hamill) throughout his run in the UFC light heavyweight division.

Jones stayed away from the UFC for almost three years since 2020 and came back this year to move up a weight class. He fought Ciryl Gane for the heavyweight title and won quite easily. Then, Jones was pitted to defend his title against the legendary Stipe Miocic at UFC 295. After that, Jones was expected to retire, provided he won. However, UFC heavyweight prospect Tom Aspinall called out Jones and Jones answered – in his own style.

Jon Jones is currently one of the most talked about UFC fighters on the roster. When he defeated Gane, the world was impressed with the prowess that Jones still had. However, his job was not done. He had to defend his title against Miocic. In the midst of all this, UFC heavyweight fighter Tom Aspinall called out the champ, saying that he wanted to take the heavyweight belt from Jon Jones.

Jones reacted with his classic Tweets, which he then deleted. The first Tweet that he sent out read, “Everyone’s the next big thing until I beat them. And then it’s like, well, who was that guy anyway? Just a few months ago Gane was the absolute future of MMA. Best footwork, fastest heavyweight we have ever seen. The most athletic. Now everyone’s like who the hell is that guy.

Jones was not impressed with Aspinall and didn’t consider him a threat to his position as the UFC champ. He was busy preparing for Miocic (unfortunately the fight was canceled when Jones suffered an injury while sparring). The second tweet that he made, read, “Sometimes I feel like I have deja vu, everyone’s going to be the guy to kick my a**. Meanwhile, I’m over here undefeated with a face full of grey hairs.

Dive Deeper – Can Tom Aspinall Come Close to Jon Jones’s Legacy and Up Fighting the UFC GOAT?

Jones has always been a confident fighter, and it seems, so many years later, nothing has changed for him. But what is next for Jon Jones? Is the Stipe Miocic next for him? Or is the Francis Ngannou fight on the table yet again?

Francis Ngannou, Tom Aspinall or Stipe Miocic? Who will Jones fight before he finally retires?

Jones has been contemplating retirement for a while now. It seems that the UFC champ thinks that he hasn’t been challenged. Before pulling out of the fight against Stipe Miocic, Jones suggested that he would be walking away from the sport after making quick work of him.

However, now that Tom Aspinall has called out Jones and Jones has responded positively, fans are speculating if there is one more fight that Jones will take on, before he finally hangs his gloves up for good. But it seems there is an interesting angle that has been developing on the side.

When Jones pulled out of the Miocic fight, former UFC heavyweight champ Francis Ngannou threw his hat in the ring to replace Jones and fight Miocic. Now whether the fight would be for a ‘vacant’ heavyweight title or the interim title – no one knows. The reason Jones came out of retirement was to fight Ngannou. However, the fight never happenend, since Ngannou signed with the PFL.

If Ngannou comes back, a fight against Jones could very well be on the cards, since the fans have been asking for it for the longest time. Who do you think Jones will take on next? Will he truly retire after the Miocic fight? Or will he stick around to cement his place as the UFC GOAT with one last fight?
