It has been over a decade since Khabib Nurmagomedov made his UFC debut. The Dagestani fighter blessed the octagon with his presence in January 2012. The fighter has left the promotion after making an undefeated record of 29-0-0. He retired from fighting in MMA fighting altogether after his last fight in 2020. In his last fight, Nurmagomedov went up against Justin Gaethje in the lightweight title bout in UFC 254. Fans respected the fighter for his career in the UFC and feared him for his discipline and training routines. UFC Welterweight fighter Belal Muhammad recently appeared on the popular podcast ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’. In the JRE MMA episode #134, within the first 10 minutes, the duo couldn’t stop themselves from talking about ‘The Eagle’. The topic was initiated by Joe Rogan himself when he talked about the discipline the Dagestanis show in their professional and personal lives. Muhammad then added to the topic by narrating a story about Nurmagomedov’s strictness.
Khabib Nurmagomedov is feared even inside the camp
‘The Eagle’s fear is not just limited to the hearts of fighters who shared the octagon with him. Even the disciples at Nurmagomedov’s camp are afraid of him and respect him, regardless. Joe Rogan started by confirming the culture at the camp: “they have a very very disciplined camp, right? Like, you have to have your hair cut a certain way. Like, you can’t be f***ing around showing up with blue mohawks … Very disciplined, right?” At the Dagestani camp, the students are punished for having a different hairstyle than what is allowed.

Belal Muhammad appreciated the discipline the camp practices. In fact, in his opinion, it was the reason why they are all successful in this line of work. The requirement of discipline is not just restricted to combat sports, but to all the other fields in life. The welterweight fighter mentioned further about the gym: “when Khabib walks into the room, it’s like an army. We all get up, and we all stand in a line.”
How does training work at Khabib Nurmagomedov’s gym?
In the podcast itself, ‘Remember The Name’ mentioned that he once trained in the gym alongside ‘The Eagle’. According to him, the best kind of training skills are possessed by Nurmagomedov’s camp members because they train everything daily. “Most times I’ve trained with. We have sparring days on Mondays and Wednesdays. For them, they are doing everything every day. It’s small gloves sparring every day, then you take off your gloves and you’re grappling every day. Then right after that, you’re going into the cage and wrestling in the cage. Every day,” added the American fighter.

Belal Muhammad also mentioned that, at his gym, Khabib Nurmagomedov trains all the fighters in several mock “hard sparring” sessions. This allows the fighter to get some real experience of the fight even before stepping into an actual fight.
