What happens during sparring stays a secret. That’s what fighters do to be respectful of their training partners. However, there are times when some MMA fighters break that code and that happened with Jiri Prochazka. Prochazka is gearing up for his return against Alex Pereira at UFC 295, where they will fight for the vacant light heavyweight title. However, there could’ve been another interesting matchup that fans could’ve gotten to witness. And it would’ve been with none other than Khamzat Chimaev.

Chimaev once spilled out some sparring information that led to the former champion calling him out. Moreover, ‘Borz’ even issued a challenge to settle things inside the Octagon. So in this edition, we’re taking a look at the time when Prochazka almost came to blows with Khamzat Chimaev for sharing some sparring stories. Let’s see what transpired.

During an appearance on ‘The MMA Hour’ a few months ago, Khamzat Chimaev revealed some sparring stories he had with Jiri Prochazka. He mentioned his wish to conquer the 205lbs division. Moreover, Chimaev even mentioned that he beat former champion Jiri Prochazka many times during sparring.

“Me and Jiri [used to train] a long time before when he was fighting [in] RIZIN, I was fighting in Brave,” said Khamzat Chimaev about his history with Jiri Prochazka.

He also stated he had submitted the former light heavyweight champion on many occasions. Chimaev said that was surprised to see Jiri Prochazka become champion and claimed that the division does have many good fighters.

“We was training together in gym… I see me submit him many times, I beat him many times. How he become a champ? How I don’t know. Maybe it’s too many bad fighters in the division,” ‘Borz’ added. However, Prochazka did not take too kindly to these comments and responded to Chimaev thereafter to which he got a challenge from the Emirati fighter.

Chimaev offered to fight after Prochazka’s response

Jiri Prochazka took to social media and shared a response to Khamzat Chimaev’s comments in a story on Instagram. Moreover, he did not like the fact that ‘Borz’ was sharing gym stories that were almost four years old. Prochazka said, “Which person needs to speak again and again about this four-year-old information? Gym insider information.”

Furthermore, the former champion even warned Khamzat Chimaev that he would show how good he was when they spar again the next time. Prochazka told ‘Borz’ to keep things to himself.

Since the altercation, Jiri Prochazka and Khamzat Chimaev haven’t had the best of terms. However, it seems like the former champion did not go ahead with ‘Borz’s proposition of a fight in Sweden, as the latter switched his citizenship and is now a citizen of the UAE. So now we will have to wait and see if the duo ever plan to fight each other in the future.
