Joe Rogan went on a rampage in June as his Twitter handle churned out tweet after tweet challenging Peter Hotez. There are very few instances that fans can recall when the UFC commentator lost his calm and lashed out publicly. Not only did he fail to restrict himself, but he also challenged the scientist to a public debate on his popular podcast. What made the fan-favorite podcaster act in such a manner?

The 55-year-old has finally lifted the veil on what transpired as he sat down with Gad Saad in Ep. #2012 of ‘The Joe Rogan Experience.’ The guest, an eminent psychology professor, peculiarly pointed out how Rogan never weighs in on anything. However, his episode with Hotez remained the sole exception.

Notably, the vaccine scientist had blasted the JRE for spreading misinformation about COVID vaccines. Irked by these remarks, Rogan confronted him and was willing to splash $100, 000 if Hotez accepted to debate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. But it appears there is an untold aspect to the story.

Rogan said, “With that one, it was like, ok, this is crazy. You [Peter Hotez] are saying that? He made some crazy tweet about neo-fascist leaders. Like, what are you talking about? Like with Robert Kennedy Jr., with me, like, this is dangerous. What you are saying is totally untrue. You know it’s untrue.”

Following this, the comedian mentioned Hotez released those statements to discredit his doubters. Doing so elevated him in his own “weird” mind game of checkers. The color commentator continued, “You don’t think people know what you are doing? That’s like the most clear neo-fascist. What the f*ck are you saying?”.

The Twitter tussle between Rogan and Hotez had split the users in two as various prominent personalities picked their sides. It was odd to see them engage in a heated argument when Hotez had appeared on JRE twice.

‘Nice’ Rogan just wanted a debate with Hotez

Later in the conversation, the guest asked Rogan if he felt a personal connection with Hotez because he appeared on his podcast and had an exchange with him.

To which the TV presenter replied, “For sure. I’ve had him on twice. I was very nice to him. Even in disagreement with him, like in the issues of health, I was very nice to him. But you can’t say stuff like that. You know, I just wanted to say, like have a debate with the guy.”

Thus, it appears Rogan only wanted a public discourse on vaccines, but the exchange blew out of proportion.
