UFC middleweight Chris Weidman suffered one of the most gruesome, possibly career-ending injuries in his fight against Uriah Hall back in UFC 261. The injury occurred just 17 seconds into the match after Hall checked on Weidman’s kick snapping the American’s right leg.
Weidman would, however, make a quick return just two years after the injury against Brad Tavares back in UFC 292. The 39-year-old will now fight this weekend against Bruno Silva. So what surgery did Weidman undergo to make such a quick recovery and how bad was his injury?

Uriah Hall’s checking the kick of Weidman fractured both the lower tibia and fibula of the right leg of the former champ, the fibula even puncturing the skin through his calf. The injury was one of the most severe and gruesome injuries in the UFC and fans across the arena were left speechless when it happened. The ringside physicians didn’t take any moments to spare, taking the 39-year-old to the hospital after understanding the severity of the injury.

The Doctors rushed to clean and treat the wound first and foremost to prevent infection. They repaired his tibial injury by inserting a rod down the tibial shaft to help stabilize it, but the fibula was left to heal on its own. Weidman would undergo a couple more surgeries, one for placement, while another to help the fibula which was expected to heal on its own. He would suffer an infection, and undergo rehab before finally getting the clearance to fight again.
Chris Weidman’s return certainly had quite a lot of people stunned with how soon he returned inside the cage. However, unfortunately, his return against Brad Tavares would lead to another injury.
Weidman’s injury against Brad Tavares of 292
Chris Weidman would make his return against Brad Tavares and would suffer a loss as Tavares would come in with a better game plan. Tavares would attack the lead leg of Weidman every time he switched to southpaw throwing the 39-year-old off of his gameplan. Weidman would suffer another injury during the fight and would later address it in a podcast episode.
The American addressed the injury, stating, “I have a fracture on my left leg. So, I guess he broke my leg with one of those leg kicks… I ended up switching to southpaw and figuring it out. But I’m pretty sure that’s when my leg broke, fractured it. Recovery-wise, it’s not bad at all, Four weeks. Four-week recovery. That’s it.”
