The recent news of the noted former UFC lightweight champ, Charles Oliveira, withdrawing from his UFC 294 bout against Islam Makhachev disheartened a number of fans. UFC head honcho Dana White also announced that the famed UFC featherweight champ, Alexander Volkanovski, will now fight Makhachev instead of Oliveira. But this announcement might have doused some fans with even deeper confusion.

A large chunk of them might be currently thinking about Volkanovski’s post-UFC 290 octagon interview. In it, ‘The Great’ mentioned that he had an injury and needed surgery before he could accept his next fight. However, White also revealed that it was ‘Volk’ who accepted the fight himself. This is exactly what most of the fans may be confused about. Has the current UFC featherweight champ already completed his surgery? Let’s learn a bit more about the same in this edition.

Volkanovski’s UFC 290 octagon interview after conquering Yair Rodriguez sparked a lot of speculation. During his time inside the Octagon with the famed Joe Rogan, ‘Volk’ said, “I need to get a little bit of surgery on my arm”. UFC fans have witnessed fighters going for prolonged timeouts from fighting after surgeries. A number of them may have predicted the same for ‘Volk’ too. However, they may have found relief after he implied that it was nothing serious. ‘Volk’ said, “It’s not a big deal. I’ll be back ASAP.”

The UFC CEO, Dana White, also had similar words to say about ‘Volk’s’ surgery. However, it was the noted MMA coverage personality, Ariel Helwani, who provided better clarity about the issue with an update on ‘X’. It revealed, “He’s been dealing with that injury for a year, he said, and it became “unbearable” during this fight camp”.

Most fans might remember that Volk sustained a major thumb injury during his UFC 276 fight last year. Helwani’s update may compel fans to think that ‘The Great’ has sustained minor injuries to his arm during the same fight too.

Did Alexander Volkanovski provide any updates about his surgery?

Well, an affirmation would be the correct answer to this question. Staying true to his words, ‘The Great’ did actually go for surgery in late July this year. However, his fans may have been relieved when he posted an Instagram story revealing the success of his surgery.
