After a financial dispute with Dana White in May 2020, ‘Bones vacated the UFC Light Heavyweight champion’s spot. According to the UFC president, Jones wanted ‘Deontay Wilder money’, in a proposed heavyweight bout against Francis Ngannou. Based on Wilder’s rematch with fury in 2020, that amount was estimated to be somewhere at $25-30 million.

While Jon Jones didn’t end up making boxing money, he still earned more money than most fighters at UFC 295. According to InsideSport, the most that Jones earned ever in a fight was against Ciryl Gane, where he was paid $3 million to show, $3 million as a potential bonus, and over $600,000 in win and award bonuses, taking his total earning to around $6.6 million. Jones declared in the past that he thinks he is probably the highest-paid athlete on the UFC roster, but most sources say otherwise, agreeing that Conor McGregor is the highest-paid UFC star.

Jones made five-figure salaries in his bouts against Ciryl Gane, Daniel Cormier, and his second outing against Alexander Gustafsson. From those fights alone, he made a fortune of $8.4 million, not counting performance or win bonuses. Apart from fighting, Jones also made about $7.6 million in sponsorships and endorsements with brands like Nike and Gatorade. Interestingly, Jon Jones signed an eight-fight deal with the promotion before his heavyweight title bout at UFC 285. It was an amendment to his existing contract which also saw an increase in his base pay. Since he is the divisional heavyweight champion, he will make a considerable chunk via PPV sales as well, at UFC 309.
