With his charisma, skill, and confidence Conor McGregor is made for the big stage and bright lights. The Irishman, who is the wealthiest and most popular mixed martial artist in the history of the sport, seems to have his sight set on a new endeavor: becoming a Hollywood star.

The Irishman is appearing in a film produced and distributed by the prestigious ‘MGM Studios’, and a  recently released trailer for the film prominently featured the former UFC two-division champion. However, not just McGregor, but the UFC in general will be a major part of the film.

Conor McGregor recently shared a trailer for his upcoming film, Roadhouse, a remake of the 1989 classic of the same name, and will be his first foray into acting. He will star alongside Oscar-nominated actor Jake Gyllenhaal, who is playing a former UFC fighter in the film.

Fans will remember Gyllenhaal making an appearance at the UFC 285 press-conference where he weighed in and faced-off against fictional UFC fighter Jax Harris as part of his movie. The actors even filmed a fight in the UFC Octagon during UFC 285 to a packed house in Las Vegas.

While there is no confirmation about the role McGregor is playing in it, it has been confirmed that he will not appear as himself in the film. The Irishman will be playing an original, fictional character in the film. based upon the trailer, it seems the former two-division champion is playing an antagonistic role.

McGregor seems to be playing a character named ‘Knox’ in the film and is expected to serve as the primary physical foil to Gyllenhaal’s character, ‘James Dalton’ as he can be seen violently headbutting the latter in the trailer.

Roadhouse set for March release on Prime

Roadhouse (2024) is a film about an ex-UFC fighter who takes a job as a bouncer in a bar in Florida. However, he soon finds out that not everything is at it seems on the surface. The film is set for a release on March 21.

However, the film will not release in theaters and will appear only on Amazon Prime Video. This has incensed the director of the film, Doug Liman, who spoke out strongly against the move in a recent op-ed. This, undoubtedly, would dampen McGregor’s debut as fans will not able to see him on the big screen. Regardless, a good performance in the film may open many doors for the Dubliner in the film industry.
