Is Joe Rogan's Trump episode a genuine interview or the ultimate internet troll?

In possibly the biggest crossover of the decade, Donald Trump is set to go on the Joe Rogan podcast today. Rogan, of course, had previously been explicitly and publicly against having the former President on his podcast since he didn’t want to do anything to “help him.”

And while some have criticized the UFC commentator for his decision to have Trump on his show despite having once called him “an existential threat to democracy”, former UFC star and podcaster ‘Funky’ Ben Askren has come up with a wild theory about the whole thing. The former Bellator champion took to X and wondered if Rogan doesn’t just plan on trolling the entire internet by just having comedian Shane Gillis on his podcast doing his exceptionally accurate and hilariously funny Trump impression.

“What if @joerogan is trolling us and just has @Shanemgillis do his Trump impression for a whole show?? it would potentially be the greatest JRE of all time,” Askren wrote.

Gillis, of course, is one of Rogan’s friends and a regular guest on JRE, where his Trump impressions never fail to leave Rogan (and the fans) in stitches. And while it would be hilarious if Rogan did what Askren has theorized, Trump is indeed going on The Joe Rogan Experience. And for very good reasons.

Why Donald Trump is going on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast

What’s your perspective on:

Is Joe Rogan's Trump episode a genuine interview or the ultimate internet troll?

Have an interesting take?

Joe Rogan has the biggest, most popular podcast in the English-speaking world. Not to mention the most influential. And with Rogan’s fanbase being primarily young men, it is natural for Trump to go on his podcast. After all, that exact demographic is also Trump’s strongest support base.

And it makes perfect sense for the former President to try and shore up that vote bank. Especially with the polls showing that Trump is in a dead heat with his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris, well within the margin of error in most polls. And what better way to make sure your most ardent supporters get out to vote than to go on their favorite podcast less than two weeks from election day?

But it seems Trump isn’t the only one who wants to cash in on JRE’s popularity. According to reports, Kamala Harris’ team was also in talks to go on Rogan’s podcast, although how far those talks have progressed or if Harris has ditched the idea entirely remains unknown at the moment. For Harris, too, it makes electoral sense to go on JRE. After all, if she can shave away even a few percentage points of young men from voting for Trump, it would be well worth it because of the closeness of the race. On the other hand, there is the possibility that the sitting Vice President crashes and burns in her appearance, which would harm her chances of winning the election.
