Chimaev also mentioned that he didn’t remember any bit of the entire incident as he was too little at that time. He learned about his injury later from his mother’s descriptions. In his interview, the Chechnya native said, “My mom told me this, but I don’t remember myself. I was two years old and we had a big staircase in our house and I fell down on the concrete”.

‘Borz’ revealed that this fall resulted in a “ripped upper lip” for him. So, now the fans finally have an answer. But there were a few other injuries as well that the 29-year-old sustained due to this accident. The undefeated UFC star also revealed, “a couple of my teeth were knocked out”. But the final injury that Chimaev sustained in this accident is still showing its effects on him.

The accident took a heavy toll on the nose of Khamzat Chimaev

Well, several fans might say that Chimaev’s nose had to pay the heaviest price due to this injury. He disclosed, “I also broke my nose”. Although there are only a few reports about this, they say that Chimaev’s nasal septum (the bone and cartilage that divide the nose in half) deviated towards the right side due to this accident.

Chimaev received thorough treatment for it back then, but none of them could repair his nasal septum. Its deviation towards the right side has closed the airway in Chimaev’s right nostril. In his interview, Chechnyan also revealed, “I still can’t breathe from my right nostril”.

But Chimaev’s fans who have awaited his first Middleweight fight for long may be severely disappointed. Recent reports reveal that his rival, Paulo Costa, may be announced unfit to compete at UFC 294 by the UFC authorities due to a staph infection.
