The UFC has witnessed many fights that were wrapped in drama. But there was a time when the world of mixed martial arts saw a couple fall apart in a messy way. Cheyanne Vlismas and JP Buys, both were a presence that greatly intimidated their opponents inside the MMA cage. Despite their impressive performance in the Octagon, they faced quite a bit of hindrance in their private life. Surprisingly, it dragged Roman Dolidze, the fighter who is now set to fight at UFC 303.

A couple of years back, the MMA world witnessed some personal issues between JP Buys and Vlismas, which came under public scrutiny. It was highlighted back when the UFC strawweight contender decided to share her departure from the US to a location she did not specify. But what exactly happened between the two? Let’s find out.

Vlismas, back in 2022, revealed that she needed an escape from her troubling situation, as she booked a flight from the States to an unknown location. But later, Buys made an allegation that Vlismas was having an affair with a guy named ‘Roman’ in Batumi, Georgia. That was indeed Buys’ birthplace, and as the netizens began talking about Vlismas’ affair, people began accusing her of infidelity.

Since Vlismas was accused of being engaged in an affair with someone named ‘Roman’, rumor mills began to churn, as people thought it was probably Roman Dolidze, the middleweight fighter at the UFC. The marital dispute went out of control as Buys began receiving threats and claimed that he was being wrongfully portrayed in a negative light. He further challenged Vlismas’ assertions regarding her inability to compete and earn money for herself.

Conversely, Vlismas refused to accept Buys’ allegations and brought out that their marriage was partly the result of Buys’ requirement for a visa. She denied being involved in any kind of extramarital affair. Finally, Vlismas urged the ‘Young Savage’ for the finalization of their separation and asked him to respect her privacy.

Dolidze was simply unlucky for sharing the same name as Vlismas’ alleged lover. But what did the strawweight contender say about the accusations?

Cheyanna Vlismas responded to accusations

Soon after their marital problems went public, Vlismas sent forth a long text in a now-deleted tweet. Therein, Vlismas claimed, “If there is anything I would like to say it’s I for one never cheated on my husband, nor would I ever cheat on someone. The fact I have to put my business out here is just mind-blowing to me.”

Vlismas refused to speak about her side of the story, reasoning that it was her personal matter. However, she did reveal that the relationship she had with Buys was not one where she was happy. She wrote, “We only married for a visa and unfortunately things were not how it seemed on media.” Thereafter, she asked Buys to take her off his IG bio and sign the divorce papers if he thought that she cheated on him. She signed off, asking her ex-husband to leave her alone and let her move on.

Vlismas wrote, “Also if I must say if I was a cheater than take me off your IG bio, sign my divorce papers don’t take my money and my bonus money that I shed my own blood for and leave me alone and let me move on so I can go back to earning money. This will be the last time I speak about my business. Thank you.”

After all the drama that ensued in their life, the fighters didn’t want to leave what they loved the most, even though they were inactive for quite a while. Vlismas last fought Cory McKenna and lost back in 2022. But what about the ‘Young Savage’? Is he still in action?

Buys, just like his ex-wife, continued to compete in the UFC. However, he hasn’t been able to claim a single victory for the past four years. He is currently running on a 4-fight losing streak, with his last win dating back to 17 November 2020, against Jacob Silva. The fighter, despite being active, is yet to win in the UFC.
