Can you imagine someone dropping Jon Jones? The same man who Dana White reveres as the GOAT? Jones has built quite a reputation for himself through his incredible fight performances for more than a decade. So, imagining him getting dropped during the sparring session is a hard thing to do. However, the almost impossible feat has happened in the past.

The man who burst into the scene as the youngest champ in UFC history continues to dominate the heavyweight division even at 37. But let’s travel back in time and see that even Jones is not invincible. Retired UFC welterweight Carlos Condit revealed that Jones was once dropped in training by a rising Chechen powerhouse. Let’s dive into the story.

Who is Adlan Amagov? Russian’s Background, Stats & more

Before getting into the tantalizing tale of how Chechen fighter Adlan Amagov accomplished the unthinkable, let’s learn about him a bit. Almost a decade has passed since his last MMA fight but now he has been thrust back into the spotlight all because of a revelation. Carlos Condit recently revealed that Jones was dropped by Amagov aka ‘spinning back kick guy’ in the past with a clean shot to the liver.

Perhaps some of the more seasoned UFC fans would know him. But UFC veteran Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson did not when Condit revealed this information in the JAXXON podcast. So here it is—-Amagov is a former MMA fighter and he retired from the combat sports world with a  14-2-1 record in 2016. He had oscillated between competing in welterweight and light heavyweight during his time as a fighter. 8 victories and 1 draw and 1 loss in his first 10 fights earned him a ticket to Strikeforce. This is where he knocked out future UFC title contender Anthony Smith in Round 1.

Now comes the fun part. Do you know who he trained with? It was none other than Khabib Nurmagomedov. And surprisingly the man who dropped Jones was knocked out by Robbie Lawler with a flying knee on a Strikeforce card back in 2012. Amagov even joined UFC in 2013 and the Jackson Wink MMA Academy fighter seemed to be gaining momentum with a 2-0 run inside UFC against Chris Sprang and TJ Waldburger. He even knocked out Waldburger so badly that the latter needed a stretcher after the fight. But after this brief successful stint in UFC, he retired to spend more time with his family but fought once more in 2016.

A couple of years ago the Chechen warrior discussed the tale of him knocking out Jones. He had no plans to reveal this but Jones spoke about it after travelling to Russia in 2018. Since then the former UFC kingpin has been bombarded with this question.

Did Adlan Amagov drop Jon Jones?

Let’s come back to the present and see how this news from the past got hyped up suddenly after so many years. Condit in a conversation with  Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson on the JAXXON Podcast, recalled his training days at Jackson Wink MMA Academy. Jackson was curious about his former opponent’s invincibility and asked whether Jones ever faced a KO.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Jon Jones' invincibility a myth after being dropped by Amagov in training?

Have an interesting take?

Condit enthusiastically revealed an interesting story from his training days. What began as a fine morning of training turned out to be a shocking moment when ‘Bones’ was sent to the mat. He recalled, “You know, we’re in there, you know, tipping and tapping, and then we get this dude—I don’t know if you guys have ever heard of Adlan Amagov. He was like a spinning backkick guy, and he f—–me up. Then, I think a round or two later, he hit Jon with that spinning back kick”

A surprised Jackson asked, “Did he drop him?” and Condit affirmed, “He dropped him.” Even Amagov shyly confirmed it in 2021. “We have not been in touch with him for a long time. As I retired from Instagram, I no longer keep in touch with him,” Amagov declared.

In fact, for some UFC fans, Amagov’s name might ring a bell because Khamzat Chimaev once spoke about him even if it was scathingly. Many compared ‘Borz’ with the ‘Chechen Van Damme’. You know what’s more interesting? Even Amagov’s nickname is ‘Borz’ and since he came before Chimaev, this might have made the latter a little apprehensive.

Chimaev had stated in a  Red Corner interview, “I just broke into the UFC [and]… they started comparing me with Khabib and other fighters. With Adlan Amagov, in particular. Of course, when you achieve some good results, they say says he’s is like Khabib or Adlan Amagov…’ But everyone has their achievement. I’ve got mine, Khabib and Adlan have got theirs… every fighter wants to create his legacy.” So rest assured, he was pretty formidable as a fighter.

Amagov’s MMA career and stats

We already know how amazing Amagov aka ‘Borz’ is but still let’s look at the numbers once again. He garnered a 14-2 record in MMA and retired just after two UFC fights. His first fight in Strikeforce was against Ron Stallings at Strikeforce Challengers 17 where he won via split decision. Then Amagov went on to clash with Anthony Smith and won via KO in Round 1.

The only time Amagov lost was against Lawler at Strikeforce – Rockhold vs. Jardine via Flying Knee in Round 1 but then gained momentum again by winning against Keith Berry. Then came his UFC stint where he achieved victory against Spang and Waldburger and decided to end his reign there.

He retired in 2016 at the young age of 26 and decided to give more time to his family after growing tired of cutting weight. But the zeal to fight never really leaves a father’s mind so he returned for a final bout three years later at League S-70 – Plotforma 7th. Just imagine what could happen if he was still active in the MMA world, surely Jon Jones would be a little over the edge. What do you think?
