The Colby Covington and Leon Edwards feud appears to have come to a close with Edwards securing a decisive victory over Covington at UFC 296. Covington’s remarks about Edwards’ late father during the pre-fight press conference proved to be a pivotal factor in his defeat. Edwards, visibly affected by the incident, admitted to breaking down backstage and confided in Joe Rogan about his emotional state.
“Rocky” emerged victorious in the bout, yet a lingering question persists: How far can one go to demean others in this game? Edwards’ coach posed this exact question to Dana White, and White’s response aligns with our expectations. Let’s delve deeper to comprehend the perspective.

Colby Covington went too far with his antics when he referred to Leon Edwards as a gangster who resides in hell and he would send Edwards directly to his father on the fight day. These comments by Covington forced Edwards to throw a bottle at “Chaos”. On the fight day, Edwards reminded Covington why he was nicknamed “Rocky”. The dominance showcased by Edwards might have been career-ending for Covington.

Leon Edwards’ coach and father figure, David Lovell, recently discussed the matter on The MMA Hour. During the conversation, Lovell revealed that he had approached Dana White regarding the obnoxious comments made by Covington during the press meet. Lovell inquired with White about where one should draw the line when engaging in banter. “I even said to Dana White after the fight, when he came over, ‘Dana, where do you draw the line?” said Lovell.
He further added that White referred to Covington as a scum when Lovell asked the question. However, Lovell was not satisfied with White’s response as this would affect every fighter to dig into each other’s family affair.”Dana turns around and says, ‘Well, listen, you know what kind of scum you’re dealing with.’ I said, ‘Yes, Dana, but you’ve got to draw the line somewhere, bro.’ If that’s the case, that means he’s giving the green light to anybody. That means if you and I are gonna fight, I will do a little bit of research, whether your family members passed away under circumstances, and shove it in your face during the fight. Is this what everybody is now? Are we bringing down the game to the gutter? And this is what hurt me,” said Lovell.

Lovell’s statement might have some weight, considering the fact this is not the first time that fighters made personal attacks. Nonetheless, Covington seems to be firm in his words about Edwards’s father, as he is not even regretting it.
Covington is not in a regret mode
Following his defeat, Covington found himself getting hate from everywhere. While fans hoped for a sense of remorse from Covington regarding his controversial comments about Edwards’ father post-match, a recent statement from Covington has served as a stark reminder for fans.

When Covington was asked whether he regretted the comments that he made about Edwards’s father, Covington stated that he was unapologetic about it and why he should care about a gangster who killed people. “Not at all [regretting his comments]. Why would I have sympathy for a sex trafficker? Someone who has impacted and hurt a lot of people’s lives? “
