“We’re Tired of This Nonsense” – Exhausted Over Khamzat Chimaev’s Public Mess With Cousin, Khabib Once Had to Turn Mediator in Last Ditch Effort

There was a time when Khamzat Chimaev and Khabib Nurmagomedov really disliked each other. Their disdain for one another was also seen in the exchanges between Team Khabib and ‘Borz’; especially back at UFC 280 when Islam Makhachev defeated Charles Oliveira for the vacant title!

The drama ensued near the octagon and eventually, ‘The Eagle’ had to voice his opinions about it. While Makhachev gave a post-fight interview in the cage, his teammates found time to rough house with ‘Borz’. It could have gotten out of hand, but thankfully, the incident lasted only a few seconds. But what did Chimaev say that led to the bitterness between him and Khabib’s team?

The UFC 280 scuffle between Khamzat Chimaev and Team Khabib

To support Islam Makhachev, Team Khabib is always present in his corner, with or without the presence of ‘The Eagle’ himself. The same was true for October 2022 when Makhachev went up against ‘Do Bronx’ and emerged as the better fighter. But this is when things also got a little interesting outside of the cage.

In a video taken by an audience member, ‘Borz’ can be seen trying to make his way through the crowd while he bumps into Nurmagomedov’s brother Abubakar. Initially, it looked like a friendly interaction, but things soon escalated.

It all started with a simple greeting that went sideways. After a moment of exchanging words, the two broke into a fight. Chimaev shoved away Nurmagomedov’s brother, and he tried to fight back. Security had to intervene to break the fight up.

Chimaev then walked away from Team Khabib. A fight by the cage would have taken away all the limelight from Makhachev, who had just won the biggest fight of his career. Later on, ‘The Eagle’ voiced his thoughts about the scuffle.

Khabib Nurmagomedov was tired of “nonsense” fights

A day after the incident, Nurmagomedov decided to clear the air. The Dagestani fighter shared a video featuring his team members and Chimaev present. He kept his video as humble as possible and ensured that Chimaev was apologized to. It was perhaps the day that peace finally started fostering between ‘Borz’ and Team Khabib.

“To tell the truth, we’re tired of this nonsense!” Nurmagomedov had said then. “Here we are, gathered together as brothers; talked to each other, and we apologized to each other and hugged. Inshallah. I hope that in the future that we will only gather for good reasons and fight for good reasons.”

However, Chimaev’s feud with Team Khabib goes back to the time when the former issued a challenge to Nurmagomedov during an Instagram Live. He said he could defeat ‘The Eagle’. This started the feud between ‘Borz’ and ‘Team Khabib’.

Since then, both Nurmagomedov and Chimaev have spoken out about their respect for each other. The latter even apologized for his comments and has said they were “on good terms”. 

‘The Eagle’ is out and away from the MMA scene for good. He still trains fighters back in Dagestan but doesn’t show up to events in any professional capacity. Now that both Makhachev and Chimaev have fights at the next pay-per-view UFC 294. Perhaps, we will get to see Team Khabib cheer on for both. What do you think?
