UFC commentator Joe Rogan has been finding immense success lately with his podcast ‘The Joe Rogan Experience.’ The 55-year-old hosts intriguing conversations with a variety of guests from various fields. Several artists, politicians, and sports figures have appeared on JRE and delivered insightful conversations. One such exchange happened during the recent episode of the Spotify podcast, which featured rap icon O’Shea Jackson Sr. a.k.a Ice Cube.

The former N.W. A member recounted several interesting anecdotes from his music career during his two-hour-long chat with Rogan. Incidentally, he also mentioned that N. W. A was the first music group whose album came out with the ‘Parental Advisory’ sticker for the first time. The group’s iconic album ‘Straight Outta Compton’ was a milestone in the gangsta rap genre and helped popularize it globally. The 54-year-old hilariously recounted the reason their album received the sticker first.

Ice Cube tells Joe Rogan the story behind the ‘Parental Advisory’ sticker

During their conversation on episode #2004 of JRE, Joe Rogan told Ice Cube about the time he listened to their album. The BJJ black belt complimented him, saying how his music impressed him during his youth. Their conversation moved on to the style of the music and how N. W. A’s album raised controversies for the explicit language.

In this context, Ice Cube said, “The PMRC (Parents Music Resource Center)… that’s the reason why you have an advisory sticker on the record, because that was the compromise. They were saying, you know, ‘I sent my daughter to the record store to buy a record. She came home with a f***ing 2 Live Crew. I didn’t know this sh*t was gonna be like this.'”

He continued, “You know, so, the compromise from the record industry was we’ll put a ‘Parental Advisory’ sticker on the record… So we were the first group to put that sticker on our records. We were the very first group because Priority Records designed that ‘Parental Advisory’ sticker.”

The 54-year-old mentioned how they had to manually add the sticker to the album covers at first, but integrated it into the artwork for future albums. The rapper also joked about how kids would not buy their record unless it had the sticker.
