Max Holloway has been a part of the UFC for about 11 long years now, a journey that began 13 years ago when the Hawaiian fighter stepped into the MMA world. At 31 years old, Holloway is now preparing for his 27th fight in the UFC, a remarkable feat in a sport where most fighters retire early due to the physical toll it takes on their bodies. Recently, Max Holloway sat down with UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier for an interview, during which the latter asked the ‘Blessed’ one what keeps him going while other fighters retire. In response, the former UFC featherweight champion shared a smart approach to his training and career longevity.
Holloway explained, “A lot of people talk about the damage thing. And damage thing is great, because, you can see the number things when I’m in front of you. But, I’m no longer taking damage in the gym.”
He further added, “At the end of the day, that’s what it is, you know. We found the way, what works for us. We take less damage in the gym now, so, if we do take damage, it can be in the find. And you can make your career longer.”
At 31 years old, Holloway still has time on his side, but he’s implementing a smart approach to his training and preparation for fights. Moreover, the Hawaiian fighter also has a healthy way of dealing with losses, another factor that can derail a fighter’s career.

He said, “Everybody is like, ‘How long did it take you to get over that last fight?’ I was like, ‘The next day.’ You know what I mean? I felt bad for myself on Sunday, we left for Monday [and] I was over it, you know what I mean? You can’t cry over spilled milk.”
The ‘Blessed’ one is truly a student of the game, constantly looking for ways to improve and grow as a fighter. He will take on the Arnold Allen tomorrow at T-Mobile Center, Missouri.
