During an MMA fight, many things are at stake: fighters’ paychecks, potential future opportunities, and their resumes, to name a few. However, not everything that is on the line during an MMA encounter is related solely to the two athletes sharing the arena. Some aspects go beyond that, with one example being the cash that people bet on them.

Similar to most other professional sports, MMA is no stranger to betting. Official odds exist, and winning a bet—especially on an underdog—can result in significant profits. It seems that rapper Snoop Dogg has capitalized on some of those profits.

At UFC 292, Sean O’Malley set the MMA world ablaze when he dethroned Aljamain Sterling from the Bantamweight throne of the UFC. O’Malley entered the bout as an underdog, largely due to Sterling’s advantage on the ground. However, defying the odds, ‘Sugar’ managed to finish ‘Funk Master’ in just the second round of the fight. Betting on O’Malley was a risky endeavor, considering the fighter’s +210 underdog status, indicating less than a 30 percent chance of winning.

But every $100 bet on the Montana native would yield a $310 return. This is clearly a case of a high-risk, high-reward deal. However, this didn’t deter many from betting on the charismatic bantamweight, including rapper Snoop Dogg. Recently, Sean O’Malley shared a video on his social media handle with the caption ‘Unc.’ In the video, the rapper can be heard saying, “Great fu**in’ win, champ! The sugar show starts now. You made me some money last night, nephew. Good sh*t.” Apparently, the rapper has made some serious cash.

This is not the first time that celebrities have been open about their bets on MMA. Another rapper, Drake, has reportedly lost a staggering $2.6 million betting on UFC fights. The chart-topping artist is most famously known for betting on Jorge Masvidal when ‘Gamebred’ faced his former friend turned foe, Colby Covington. Speculation suggests that the Canadian star lost an astonishing $275,000 betting on the Florida native.

What’s Next for ‘Sugar’ Sean?

At UFC 292, Sean O’Malley secured the 135 lb throne. According to many, the Montana native has been on the rise to stardom. And ‘Sugar’ proved them right with his recent triumph. It’s evident that Dana White and the company are firmly on the O’Malley bandwagon. This is evidenced by the fact that the company released his TKO victory over Aljamain Sterling just moments after the event concluded.

Now the question remains: What’s next for the star? According to many, a rematch with Chito Vera would be fitting. This is because the Ecuadorian is the only fighter to have defeated O’Malley in the UFC. Another great option could be Sterling’s teammate, Merab Dvalishvili. The Georgian fighter is currently on a 9-fight win streak, with the most recent victory coming against former champion Petr Yan.
