UFC Hall of Famer Ronda Rousey has her roots in judo. She is a former Olympic Bronze Medalist in Judo which she won in 2008. Rousey’s mother, AnnMaria De Mars, was also a Judoka herself. She won the Gold Medal at the World Judo Championships in 1984. However, an old video clip shows ‘The Baddest Woman on the Planet’ almost getting taken down by her mother.
Ronda Rousey’s UFC record stands at 12 wins and 2 losses. She was the inaugural UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion. ‘The Baddest Women on the Planet’ is regarded as the pioneer of women’s mixed martial arts and received UFC Hall of Fame status in 2018 and became the first female inductee ever.

Ronda Rousey was an excellent grappler. She was famous for defeating opponents with her signature armbar submission. Meanwhile, her mother is an accomplished and decorated judoka. She also coached Rousey when she was coming up as a judoka.
Ronda Rousey was almost taken down by her mother
An old video shows Rousey meeting her mom in the lobby of a hotel. This was during the time Rousey was set to face Beth Correia for the UFC women’s bantamweight championship at UFC 190. The UFC Hall of Famer surprised her mother, AnnMaria De Mars with a hug. However, De Mars tried to attempt a judo throw on her daughter as they were embracing each other. Ronda Rousey isn’t used to getting handled in such a way. De Mars put Rousey down as they smiled about it. “I haven’t dropped you yet,” said AnnMaria De Mars.

AnnMaria De Mars started winning judo championships at the national level at the age of 16. She also went to Tokyo during her junior year at Washington University. De Mars trained under Sensei Osawa whilst her stay in Japan. She holds an MBA degree and a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology as well. Ronda Rousey’s mother is more than just an athlete’s mom. She is an accomplished author and athlete herself. De Mars is currently a co-founder of a company that produces educational video games, ‘7 Generation Games.’

Ronda Rousey has always mentioned her mother’s contribution to her judo career. However, after an impressive judo and MMA career, she has taken the professional wrestling industry by storm. The 35-year-old made a successful WWE debut at WrestleMania 34. Since then, she has been a major player in the women’s division and is a multiple-time women’s champion.
