Georgian fighters Merab Dvalishvili and Ilia Topuria have given their fans a lot to cheer after the UFC 298 PPV event. The pair won their fights and asserted their dominance in their divisions. Ilia Topuria emerged as the champion of the featherweight division. While Dvalishvili cemented his place as the number one contender in the bantamweight division after his win.

Giorgi Kokiashvili recently took to his X account (formerly Twitter) to give a glimpse of the people in Georgia before their fights. The supporters walked out in numbers to support their fighters and even sang the national anthem in chorus, and the fighters gifted them with a win.

UFC 298 witnessed two Georgian fighters take center stage at one of the most anticipated events of the year. #2 ranked bantamweight fighter Merab Dvalishvili took on Henry Cejudo for the time in his career. The 33-year-old looked in sublime shape and dominated the fight from the beginning. While Cejudo had his moments in the fight, he struggled to match up to the Georgian fighter. The 33-year-old finally won the fight via unanimous decision and will now face the champion of the division next.

Ilia Topuria was the next in line and was scheduled to take on Alexander Volkanovski for the featherweight title. The Georgian born who now lives in Spain had taken the division by storm with his back-to-back performances. He continued his dominance against ‘ Volk’ and surprised everyone with his second-round knockout victory. Volkanovski, who is considered by many as the greatest featherweight fighter, defended his title five times before this. However, this time round, the power of the 27-year-old proved too much to handle for the former champion. With Volkanovski out of the way, whom does the featherweight champion want to face next?

Ilia Topuria calls out Conor McGregor after his win at UFC 298

The hard- hitting Spaniard surprised everyone when he predicted that he would knock out the champion in the first round and win the fight. While the fight did not end in the first round, ” El Matador” surely knocked out the champion as predicted. After his victory, Topuria looked very emotional and relieved at the same time. Before his fight, Topuria was having a go at Sean O’ Malley and Max Holloway. However, after the fight, he surprised everyone when he called out the former two-division champion Conor McGregor.

During his post-fight interview, Topuria said: “And Conor McGregor, if you still have some balls, I will be waiting for you in Spain.” The call-out may not come as a surprise to the fans as ‘ El Matador’ previously also showed his interest in facing the Dubliner. The 35-year-old was last seen in action at UFC 264 in 2021 and since then is yet to make a return. However, he has shown his interest in making a comeback and it will be interesting to see if he returns in 2024.
