MMA promotion Cage Titans Fighting Championship kicked off 2023 with their Cage titans 57 events at the Plymouth Memorial Hall in Plymouth, Massachusetts. The event saw the lightweight champion Joe Giannetti defend his championship against Saul Almeida as the main event of the night. Cage Titans 57 also showcased an unusual move by lightweight fighter, Gerald Meuse.
Gerald Meuse has been in the mixed martial arts game since 2013. He also served time in the United States military. He has fought in multiple promotions including Spartyka Fight League, Cagezilla Fighting, Combat Zone MMA, and Cage Titans FC. Meuse primarily fights in the lightweight division. He boasts an amateur record of 3 wins, 2 losses, and 1 draw. The New England native started his professional career with a win over Jesus Cintron.

Cage Titans 57 was a two-day event that included a total of 15 bouts on the card, including the prelims. The card consisted of bouts of mostly male fights, with just one female bout. But in an interesting instance, Gerald Meuse surprised the crowd with a very unusual submission move against his opponent, Joshua Beauparlant.

Gerald Meuse made pretty quick work of Joshua Beauparlant by tapping him out in the first round of their bout at Cage titans 57. Joshua Beauparlant had three losses prior to his match against Meuse. The match wasn’t a big duel between the two fighters and ended pretty quickly.

In the third minute of the first round, Gerald Meuse caught hold of Beauparlant in a back-mounted position. He struggled a bit before getting into a comfortable position and trapping Beauparlant in an unusual ‘twister’ rear-naked choke. It was one of the rarest ways an MMA bout has ended in the history of the sport.

Gerald Meuse had his first MMA bout in almost more than four years. His last fight took place in 2018. He appeared in the post-fight media scrum and expressed his intentions on working his way up to fight tougher opponents. Meuse admitted that he had told everybody before the fight that he will perform a twister submission. He had never tried that move before his fight at Cage Titans 57.
