Watch: BJJ Goat Gordon Ryan Shares a 13 Year Old Clip of Him Using “Figure 4 Guillotine” Before His Adult Division Debut

He has dominated the BJJ world with an unparalleled combination of skill, technique, and strategic talent, leaving opponents scratching their heads. But did you know? Ryan had somewhat the same mastery when he was just fifteen years old. On his Instagram page, Ryan posted a video showing the beginning of his ascent to prominence.

Gordon Ryan showcased his initial journey

Ryan published a video of a BJJ competition in which he appeared when he was just 15 years old. The major goal of the video was to demonstrate how he exploited his grappling abilities to triumph in the competition. The video had an elongated caption which glorified Ryan’s experience.

It quoted, “15 year old gord hitting a figure 4 guillotine. This was my 3rd tournament. I did the 16-17-year-old advanced division, doubled golded gi and no gi, then moved up to the adult divisions for the next tournament.”

According to the footage, Ryan employed the legendary figure 4 guillotine submission lock to stand victorious. The figure four guillotine is a catch wrestling-inspired front headlock attack that was elegantly used by Ryan. The BJJ great stated that it was his third tournament, which he was a part of.

Being a member of the advance division at such a young age is evidence of how effectively he was preparing for the future. Ryan surely led a great journey when he was a teenager. But guess what? He recently went through a tough phase that raised a lot of concerns for him.

A tough phase and a strong response

Following a trip to Abu Dhabi, Gordon Ryan experienced health issues. Due to complications, a tonsillectomy showed a fungal growth that significantly reduced the amount of muscle. It was not shocking for Ryan as many of his supporters become haters, berating him for his altered body and even recommending he consider retiring. But shockingly, a few days later, Ryan showcased another transformation on his Instagram handle.

He looked even bulkier, making his return to the path of fitness evident. In his caption, Ryan quoted, “Lotta cockroaches out there who haven’t won anything or done anything in their pathetic lives with my name in their mouth all the time. Soon, all theyll be able to talk about is the greatness that will soon transpire.”
