UFC’s lightweight star Bobby Green was subject to a rough upbringing. Although he’s fighting on the biggest MMA platform today, his younger years weren’t as easy and most people can’t figure that out because of his outgoing personality. Moreover, ‘King’ even found himself in legal trouble and ended up getting imprisoned once. Today, we will uncover the reason behind his jail time and the factors that led to it.

Bobby Green found himself in foster care when he was only five years old, and was later adopted by his coach, Jacob Jenny. He went through many hardships as a child. But when he was 21 years old, Green got in trouble with the law and was arrested. Let’s take a look at how things went down.

Bobby Green was in jail for 90 days

When he was 21 years old, Bobby Green had an unfortunate tryst with the law. Green was arrested for driving a car that was not his, at least technically. As per the UFC lightweight, he paid for the car but did not have the proper documentation. The authorities arrested him for the same and he faced the same disappointment in court after the judge did not seem to buy Green’s version of events. Green ended up getting sentenced to prison for a period of 90 days. It was his first criminal offense ever.

While in prison, Green got himself in trouble again. He admittedly passed gas on an officer who was patting him down. That turned out to be a grave mistake as the 37-year-old was thrown into solitary confinement for 10 days. It is safe to assume that MMA gave Green a new lease on life because his experience inside the prison was not a good one. He revealed this during an appearance on the ‘JRE MMA Show‘.

‘King’ claims prison life was tough

Bobby Green mentioned that prison time was tough, especially because he was an African-American. The inmates from other ethnicities would always rally up against ‘King’ and members of his community, but they were able to hold their ground. There were rules in the prison that only people from the same communities could eat together or trade with each other.

“It’s always them against us. It always sucked to be black in them times… but we thumped, we thumped. So we always knock em’ out,” the UFC lightweight star told Joe Rogan. Despite getting into trouble, the 10-day solitary confinement experience brought a change in Bobby Green. “You don’t see anything. You don’t know what time it is. That’s the craziest f***ing thing,” ‘King’ told ‘Fox‘ in 2014.

However his younger self may have turned out to be, Bobby Green is in a better place now. He is a veteran in the world of MMA and has the chance to fight at the historic UFC 300 PPV. We will have to wait how things pan out for ‘King’ in the months and years to come because it clearly doesn’t look like he’ll be hanging up his gloves anytime soon.
