The word “guillotine” took center stage after Dustin Poirer repeatedly attempted the submission against Benoit Saint-Denis at UFC 299. The move became a meme after the event, with numerous MMA personalities offering advice to Poirier. Despite his reliance on the Guillotine, Poirier emerged victorious in the fight.

Now, Dustin Poirier prepares to face Islam Makhachev at UFC 3902. Makhachev is returning from a long layoff following his head-kick victory against Alexander Volkanovski. In a playful jab, Islam Makhachev reminded Dustin Poirier of his unsuccessful Guillotine attempts in their upcoming opponent’s fight at UFC 299. Capitalizing on this, Makhachev even offered a ‘master class” for Dustin Poirier in a recent interview with NBS Sports ahead of their UFC 302 fight.

Even though Dustin Poirier emerged victorious against Benoit-Saint-Denis, the memes and jokes directed at “The Diamond” regarding his Guillotine attempts are unlikely to disappear anytime soon, according to a recent interview hosted by NBC Sport’s renowned betting analyst. Brad Thomas Makhachev was asked about his game plan for the upcoming fight against the former interim champion.

In response, Islam Mkahachev appeared hesitant to answer directly. He simply stated that he had some surprises in store, leaving the question of his game plan unanswered. The journalist pressed on, asking Makhachev specifically if he intended to utilize the Guillotine choke against Dustin Poirier. Recognizing Makhachev’s potential desire to keep his strategy under wraps, the journalist offered him the option to decline an answer.

In reply, Islam Mkahachev remained strategically ambiguous. He stated, “First of all, I have to defend his Guillotine, and maybe I’ll show him how to do the Guillotine right.” This response could be interpreted as a playful jab at Poirier’s unsuccessful attempts at the maneuver in his previous fight.

However, this Guillotine war between Islam Makhachev and Dustin Poirier found its footing last month when Poirier issued a challenge to Makhachev for a Guillotine showdown. Makhachev assured Diamond that he would be ready for his Guillotine if he attempted it.

There is no doubt that “guillotine” must be the most searched word on the internet in recent months because it has been featured in almost every MMA news article. MMA experts can’t stop talking about it, especially after permanent striker Dustin Poirier tried to take down his opponent through multiple Guillotine chokes, even though his coach Mike Brown advised against it.

Anyway, after Dustin Poirier’s win against the Frenchman, Makhachev stated Poirier, saying that he was ready for his Guillotines if he tried them on him. He also assured him that Poirier couldn’t humiliate him and asked him to be ready for wrestling. He said, “I defend my neck. I am ready for your guillotine. That’s why it won’t happen in our fight, but I will be ready,” and advised him to wrestle with him.

Even Dustin Poirier refuses to abandon his Guillotine move against Islam Makhachev. He confirmed this on X (previously known as Twitter) when many mocked him and advised against using Guillotine, fearing it would lead to a loss. However, Poirier boldly replied that he wouldn’t give it up. He said in his response, “It’s hard to do that when you are leading the Gilly Goose Gang.” Additionally, in the same post, he answered a fan’s question about practicing the Guillotine. Poirier replied, “You gotta miss 100% of the Guillotines you don’t take in competition.”
