Joe Rogan has gotten himself in troubled waters once again. This time, the issue is related to statements made by a guest on The Joe Rogan Experience’s most recent episode. On JRE #2260, AI researcher, MIT physicist, martial artist and podcaster Lex Fridman joined the UFC commentator to discuss history and warfare. After a disagreement, Fridman expressed regret for defending Genghis Khan during the podcast, as he said, “I regret defending Genghis Khan in this conversation for fun. I want to say that over and over again—war is hell.” But why?
Known for his interviews with notable personalities such as Elon Musk, Donald Trump, and Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Lex Fridman drew the ire of Joe Rogan with his polarizing opinion on historical figures such as Genghis Khan. The podcaster argued that Genghis Khan was not a cruel warlord, but rather a misunderstood man. He claimed that historians’ perceptions are prejudiced since they do not criticize other leaders such as Julius Caesar. However, the UFC announcer was having none of it, as he reiterated that the Mongolian emperor was responsible for wiping out 10% of the Earth’s population.
When he asked Fridman about Khan forcing himself on other ladies of his captors, the podcaster tried to explain it as a non-forceful behavior by simply responding, ‘Nope.’ This was the final nail, and Joe Rogan went into a complete frenzy as he said, “What do you mean, nope? When he conquered these places, he would take women, and they would become his new wives. Yeah, but it wasn’t their call, so that’s kind of r*pey.”

“When enough time has passed they look at these murderers in a different light. They’ll say Genghis Khan opened up trade to the East. Sure, but he also killed 10% of the population”.

He emphasized his point about Khan’s cruelty by recounting an old historical account in which Genghis Khan’s troops massacred a million people in Jin China and put their bones into a pile that resembled snow-covered mountains from afar. In fact, when the Shah of Khwarezm came to investigate, he discovered abandoned roadways that had degraded into mud due to the large number of dead bodies. This finally made Lex Fridman accept the fact that maybe he got too carried away in defending the Mongolian leader.

Apologizing to Joe Rogan, the podcaster said that he simply didn’t know the right words to formulate his points. Lex Fridman said, “I’m not proud of the way I formulated my thoughts in the beginning. I’m still bothered by the looseness with which I talked about r*pe. I don’t think I have in me the eloquence or the skill to improve on that. In general, it’s about trying to find the right words to describe the historically accurate thing.” Well, it looks like Rogan at least got himself out of trouble by being the voice of reason in the conversation. However, this isn’t the first time that some comparisons made on the podcast helped him make news.
Joe Rogan compares Elon Musk to Albert Einstein
During the Joe Rogan Experience, Joe Rogan shared his thoughts on Tesla CEO Elon Musk. On the same episode with Lex Fridman, the UFC commentator expressed his admiration for Musk’s unique personality. Rogan said, “Elon’s such a unique character.” But that’s not all. The JRE host further elaborated on his thoughts on the comparisons fans make between the billionaire and Albert Einstein. He added, “You can’t even, like, you can’t put him in the same category as Einstein, because he’s just like a cultural weirdness. Like, who is this guy?”

Joe Rogan admires the richest man’s ability to create memes and mock his critics. In addition, he acquired Twitter (rebranding it as X) and set up important reforms despite running multiple firms at once. To top it all, he achieved all of this while constantly playing video games. So, as per the UFC commentator, this makes Musk one of the most unique men he ever met. “That doesn’t fit in anywhere else. That’s like a very unique thing that exists, this Elon Musk guy. He’s one of the most unique human beings in all of history.”
So, what was Elon Musk’s response? Well, the X CEO simply loved what Joe Rogan had to share about him. In fact, he even shared the footage on his X account with a single laughing emoji in the caption to show that he actually found the UFC commentator’s idea of him to be really funny. But what do you think? Are Elon Musk and Albert Einstein that similar? Let us know in the comments.
