Did Dana White make the right call signing the DWCS fighter after that jaw-dropping KO?

The UFC CEO, Dana White, is one who appreciates finishes more than anything else. Needless to say, it’s not often that he witnesses a phenomenal knockout in an event like The Ultimate Fighter or Dana White’s Contender Series. But when the new UFC inductees display fearsome fighting skills inside the arena, the entire world of mixed martial arts gasps in awe. Needless to say, the UFC boss didn’t let the winner walk away without a reward.

It was indeed the fight between Yuneisy Duben and Shannon Clark in the fourth week of the Contender Series season 8. However, it was the UFC head honcho’s reaction that garnered more attention than the fight itself.

The fight between Duben and Clark commenced with high entropy. The exchange of blows was constant, but it was Duben’s hammer fists that dominated the Octagon. However, when the clock hit 1:13 in the very first round, the Venezuelan flyweight sent a shockwave through the fighting community by securing a one-punch knockout win against her Canadian opponent.

White was truly mesmerized by the Venezuelan mixed martial artist’s performance. After all, knocking out one’s opponent within the first round is quite an achievement. White simply couldn’t hold his excitement in and his facial expressions revealed how amazed he was. He couldn’t keep his feet planted and was seen probably conveying how cool it was to see Duben defeat her opponent with just one punch. Soon after the fight was concluded, the UFC head honcho took to his IG story and put up a clip of the KO moment, tagging Duben in the story.

Immediately after the fight, he inducted the Venezuelan contender into the MMA promotion and signed her in as an official UFC fighter. While Duben was still celebrating her phenomenal win, White called her near the fence and confirmed that she was now a contender in the MMA promotion’s flyweight division. No wonder she was left pretty content with her performance.

UFC CEO reflects on the DWCS fighter’s financial problems

At the post-fight press conference for DWCS season 8 week 4, White didn’t stop talking about the fight between Duben and Clark. Along with Duben, all of the winners found their way to a UFC contract. However, it was the Venezuelan’s fight that caught the UFC CEO’s attention the most.

The UFC head honcho said, “She almost didn’t come, she has no money. She doesn’t have a dollar to her name… The staff has to go and do grocery shopping for her… And then she comes in and does that. I mean, f-king. Let me tell you what, she ain’t broke now… I don’t know what you can do, but we’re gonna let you in and try it. Whatever you can do. I mean, you don’t see women knock women out like that. And the girl she fought was a 13 to 1 favorite!”
