The fight started out with both the fighters delivering blows to each other. They ended the first round on an equal footing. However, things got in motion in the second round of the match when Jones pushed Machida to the canvas. In response, ‘Bones’ pushed ‘The Dragon’ to the corner and delivered a powerful left hook followed by a knee to the body.

Notably, the knee was the last nail in the coffin, as it put Machida in a daze from which he could not recover. Jones took this opportunity to slide his left hand under Machida’s neck and put him in a customized guillotine choke, all while both the fighters were still standing up.

‘The Dragon’ could not take this brutal maneuver, as all the strength left his body. Meanwhile, Jones’ choke was so powerful that the former light heavyweight champion could not even tap out of it. Hence, the referee had to step in to end the fight and force ‘Bones’ to release Machida.
Jon Jones reveals ‘The Dragon’ intimidated him’
After almost eight years after the match, Jon Jones revealed Lyoto Machida intimidated him. In a video of him with UFC, ‘Bones’ said that he was really impressed with Machida’s style.
“Lyoto actually intimidated me. He’s probably one of the most intimidating guys I’ve ever fought against. I felt like I was this young, raw champion and Lyoto was this very skilled, very clean, well-rehearsed champion himself,” Jones said in the video.
