In March, two Drug-Free Sport officials visited Jon Jones for testing. Reports suggest that ‘Bones’ refused to provide a urine sample and became agitated by their presence. Crystal Martinez, one of the officials, claimed that Jones threatened them and even seized their phones to record the encounter.

Regardless, Jones has been charged with two misdemeanors, one for assault and another for interference with communications. If found guilty, the heavyweight champion could face less than a year in jail. This situation prompted UFC insider John McCarthy to comment. “Jon Jones has been formally charged by someone in the state of New Mexico for not being nice to the tester when he was approached to take a drug test. Now the only thing I’m going to say about that is she can say she was scared by him, any of those things,” said McCarthy.

He further added, “There is video that he put out that shows him conversing with both of these testers, bumping knuckles, all those things. So whoever with the Albuquerque District Attorney’s office or anything decided to actually press that, why are you wasting time? Why are you wasting taxpayers’ money? It is ridiculous because it’s Jon Jones. That is just absolutely stupid.”

After the allegations surfaced, Jon Jones released a video accusing the agents of lying. It seems this video has saved both his life and his career as a fighter. Nonetheless, the heavyweight champion has yet to return to the Octagon since his last bout against Ciryl Gane.
