Julianna Pena took on the bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes in the co-main event for UFC 269. While the latter was a heavy favorite going into the fight, ‘The Venezuelan Vixen’ stunned the world as she handed ‘The Lioness’ her first defeat since 2014.

Both the fighters exchanged vicious jabs in the first round and kept on their feet. In the second round, ‘The Venezuelan Vixen’ landed heavy jabs and took the Brazilian to the mat. Later, she transitioned into a Rear-Naked Choke, submitting the two-division champion in the second round.

It was an epic moment for the Pena who had her time in the spotlight in front of many celebrities and fighters who had graced the arena.

After Pena’s submission win over the Brazilian, the UFC stars went crazy in the stands. In the above video, we can see Michael Chiesa running towards the cage to celebrate the win.

Furthermore, Nunes’ rival and former bantamweight champion, Miesha Tate, cheered in joy for the new champion. Next to ‘Cupcake’ was the bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling. ‘Funkmaster’ was in shock after witnessing the historic moment. Meanwhile, Nunes’ teammate Kayla Harrison remained in disbelief from the result of the fight.

Given the stunning nature of the win, coupled with Nunes’ dominance in the division, a rematch will be part of the discussions.

‘The Lioness’ is inarguably the greatest female MMA fighter. After reigning atop the UFC bantamweight division for a long time, Nunes has suffered a devastating blow at UFC 269.
