Almost two years back, Neil Magny was calling out the welterweight prospect on the rise, Khamzat Chimaev. Since then, Magny became the welterweight fighter with the most wins in the division, and Chimaev is inching closer to the title fight. However, in a sudden turn of events, both fighters are spotted training together.
The fans spotted both welterweight fighters learning the minute details of BJJ at the noted gym, Renzo Gracie gym. What’s more? Chimaev made his rival tap out and showed him glimpses of the fight that never materialized between them.

Khamzat Chimaev and Magny’s eventful training
In the surfaced video, the fans could spot both the ranked fighters sitting on the mat. While Magny popped up in a serious and heavy mood, the Chechen fighter appeared in high spirits.
However, in another sparring video, the undefeated UFC fighter made his new training partner tap out.
As per the speculations and some reports, ‘The Haitian Sensation’ will exchange blows with Gilbert Burns at UFC 283 in Jan 2023. Notably, the #12 ranked welterweight fighter is coming with a Performance of Night win over Daniel Rodriguez. But his opponent in Brazil, ‘Durinho’, possesses grappling skills, unlike others.
As fate would have it, the Brazilian fighter lost his last back-and-forth fight against Magny’s newly spotted training partner, Khamzat Chimaev.
Taking learning from the free-style wrestler’s last win, and to tackle his next opponent’s grappling prowess, the 35-year-old approached New York’s 1996-established renowned gym, Renzo Gracie gym.
‘Borz’ is still undefeated in his MMA career and currently holds a perfect record of 12-0. Besides, the Swedish fighter has a reputation for splendid wrestling that he employs effectively in his fighting style.
Chimaev and Magny’s shared history
When the #3 ranked welterweight fighter broke into popularity with the record for the quickest three-win streak in UFC, the American fighter was more than happy to fight him in 2020.
The rivalry ensued when Magny lost a fight against Michael Chiesa and Chimaev poked fun at him with a laughing emoji. Following this, Magny called out the Swedish fighter and threatened him with a ‘slaapping on sight’ warning.
Make sure you keep that same energy when you see me in person! I'll give you my word, that I'm slaaping you on sight 👋 and teaching some respect!

Subsequently, the NYC-born fighter demanded a fight against Chimaev at the UFC Dec. 18 fight card in 2021. Further, Magny declared to drag him into deep water and beat him.
However, the call-outs stretched for a long, but nothing eventually materialized between the two.
