“He fought a weight class down. Jones Jones fought a weight class up… Jon Jones has always been willing to fight anybody,” said Dana White when questioned about why he considers Jones the real pound-for-pound GOAT instead of Islam Makhachev. The MMA community believes that Islam Makhachev should officially be declared as the P4P goat in his books but the UFC head honcho is a bit hesitant considering that Jon Jones is still there in the picture. Regardless, Joe Rogan has nothing but praise for the P4P number one.
The multi-million dollar podcaster recently had a conversation with Andrew Huberman on ‘Joe Rogan Experience #2195’ and while in conversation about the art of leg kicks, Rogan emphasized that he knows exactly the person who has mastered it and guesses what it is none other than Islam Makahchev. Let us see what the podcaster has said about the Dagestani.

Joe Rogan recently hosted neuroscientist and tenured professor at Stanford University’s School of Medicine in ‘JRE #2195’. While diving into the extent of damage caused by liver kicks on one’s opponent, Rogan gave an example of how Islam Makhachev properly capitalized on leg kicks in his second fight against Alexander Volkanovski.
The mult͏i-million dol͏lar ͏p͏od͏ca͏st͏͏er emphasized that͏ a͏ ͏li͏ver͏ s͏h͏ot h͏as a two͏fold effect: initia͏lly, you’ll experience͏ a sh͏arp͏ pain͏, and j͏ust when y͏o͏u͏ ͏thin͏k͏͏ i͏t h͏a͏͏s͏ s͏ubside͏d, you’ll be hit w͏it͏h anot͏͏͏h͏͏͏er wave of͏ pain th͏a͏t ͏͏can ca͏use you to colla͏p͏s͏e. “A good example is Islam Makhachev and Alexander Volkanovski. He hit him with a left kick to the body multiple times in that fight and then fired off one to the head and knocked him out,” said Rogan.
He further added, “So it’s like they are just hiding this—like slow; you see the leg come up and it’s very hard to recognize. There’s a kick called the question mark kick, and it’s called a question mark kick because, in Taekwondo, we used to call it a fake front kick roundhouse kick. What it is, is you’re lifting the knee up as if you’re kicking to the body in a straight line, and then you whip it over and go like that and turn into a roundhouse kick.”
After the conclusion of Dana White Contender Series 69, the UFC head honcho was taken aback by the media, who asked a flurry of questions to the bossman. One of the reporters asked whether he considers Islam Makahchev as the P4P number one to which, White stated, “Islam, many people believe, lost to the guy (Volkanovski) who’s a weight class below him. Is that how pound-for-pound works?”

This statement is not new for the UFC bossman as Dana White never really considers Makhachev as the true P4P number one and this statement has been criticized by fighters and fans. Regardless, will Dana White take Islam Makhahchev as P4P number one if he stays more active? Let us find out.
Dana White might snub Islam Makhachev for Jon Jones
At the 68th edition of the Dana White Press Conference, a reporter highlighted the inactivity of Jon Jones, asserting that his hiatus might not be that good for the promotion as well as his P4P status. Responding to this, White explained, “He was active. He blew his f—ing shoulder out in training, and then had to recover and is still coming back. Jon Jones is active.” The most common complaint that the community has for the fighter never stays consistent when it comes to fighting. It must be noted that Jon Jones has only one fight in the last four years.

The UFC head honcho later in an irritated voice shut down the possibility of even considering Islam Makhachev as the P4P fighter, “It’s f—ing silly and I don’t know what this game is with everybody, but Jon Jones is the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world.” The lightweight champion has time and time again called out Dana White to reconsider his decision but the UFC boss is not in a mood to change his decision.
Jon Jones is most probably going to clash against Stipe Miocic at the Madison Square Garden this October and this fight might end the P4P debate. Regardless, what’s your take on the hubbub? State your thoughts in the comments below.
