Michael Chandler was done waiting for Conor McGregor, which led him to accept a rematch against former lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira. Well, he lost that fight, but thereafter, he appeared to be still waiting for ‘The Notorious’. It seems like he’s still looking for that ‘red panty night’, but former UFC fighter Josh Thomson claims Chandler’s callouts to the Irishman have been a bit overdone.
During a recent episode of the ‘Weighing In’ podcast, Thomson, along with co-host and veteran MMA referee, Big John McCarthy, shed light on Chandler and McGregor’s recent exchange of words on social media. The former UFC double champion mentioned that he’s still going to come back and fight despite his legal woes. Immediately, Chandler decided to point out to the Irishman that he was still waiting for that fight and successfully caught McGregor’s attention. However, Josh Thomson claims ‘Iron’ should get a move on.
“You know what’s very cringe about this whole thing is that Chandler’s begging for the fight. He’s been begging for it for two years,” stated Josh Thomson. “It’s got to the point where, I mean, you waited two years and you came out and you lost your last fight,t and now, you’re back online. Basically, chasing after the same guy, begging for the same fight. I don’t get it.”

Even though there is a proper financial benefit to fighting McGregor, Josh Thomson believes that Chandler waited enough to consider a new challenge, and his loss to Charles Oliveira did him no good. “I thought that two years was too long. But I thought after a year, I’m like, ‘You know what? Your body’s rested, you’ve had some time away. I think it was good for him because his fights before that were some f***ing knockdowns, and drag-outs. But this… is very cringe,” the former UFC fighter added.

But guess what? Maybe Conor McGregor is out of bounds so Michael Chandler needs to have an alternative opponent, and that’s where a youngster piqued his interest. Let’s have a look at that front.
If not Conor McGregor, Michael Chandler could go for Paddy Pimblett
At 38 years old, Michael Chandler doesn’t seem to be done. After failing to get inside the Octagon with Conor McGregor for the fight that he was promised, the former Bellator champion set his sights on Paddy Pimblett – a fighter that Dana White claims to remind him of ‘The Notorious’. As Chandler recently claimed to be looking for a return next year, he mentioned ‘The Baddy’, believing that people would love to see him fight the Liverpool loudmouth.

“I have a lot of respect for Paddy Pimblett, he and I are very cordial and it’s been documented how I congratulated him after bearing Tony Ferguson. We have a good relationship, but obviously, if we get matched up against each other, the goal is to go out there and inflict bodily harm,” Chandler told ‘Lucky Block’. Paddy versus myself is gonna happen at some point, I’m not sure when, but that’s definitely a fight that interests me. It’s definitely a fight that would be fun for the fans.”
The self-proclaimed ‘most entertaining fighter’ in the UFC has lost more fights in Dana White’s promotion than he won. Where do you think Michael Chandler stands now after a loss as he seeks to get that Conor McGregor fight? Let us know in the comments down below.
