Although UFC breeds enmities more than friendships, it’s not rare to see two fighters back each other up and support each other through thick and thin. That is the bond that former UFC Welterweight champ Kamaru Usman and the new BMF champ Justin Gaethje share. The two are teammates and are really close friends.

At UFC 291, Gaethje stunned the world as he dropped UFC Lightweight Dustin Poirier within two rounds to claim the BMF title. Usman was naturally over the moon to see his friend win the BMF title. However, the fans had other plans. When Usman’s celebration video went live, the fans took jibes at the former UFC champ and his loss to Welterweight champion Leon Edwards.

Now, at UFC 291, Justin Gaethje ended the BMF debate by knocking out Dustin Poirier with a similar head kick in the second round of their bout. With the win, Gaethje redeemed himself from his loss to Poirier in 2018.

An ecstatic Kamaru Usman was seen getting emotional and celebrating his teammate, Justin Gaethje’s BMF title win. But the riveting catch here is the fact that Justin Gaethje knocked out Dustin Poirier the same way Leon Edwards had knocked out Kamaru Usman at UFC 278.

The fans did not let this slide. When UFC uploaded Kamaru Usman celebrating Gaethje’s win, the fans trolled the Nigerian Nightmare, reminding him of his hammering loss to Edwards.

The comments under the post showed no mercy for the former champion. “Until they showed the highlight side by side“, commented one fan while another said, “He probably got real quiet when they compared it to him being KO“.

Another fan made an interesting wordplay while trolling Usman and said, “He got night mares from the time leon KOd him with that kick“. Another fan commented saying, “Is he watching himself get KOd?“.

Comments like, “he remembers a head kick like that“, and “usman was happy because he wasn’t the only person who lost to a headkick“, were seen in the comment section.

The fans were amused by the similarity between the two knockouts but two of them did speak up for Kamaru Usman. “All of these same “flashback” jokes, Can we acknowledge how happy he is for Justin?“, said one fan. One fan took a stand for Usman and said that the UFC comparing the two knockouts was not appreciable-“Yo, UFC was wrong for showing a comparison“. 

One fan took a dig at Usman losing and then having ‘flashbacks’, saying, “Usman getting Vietnam Flashbacks.” 

Usman is yet to answer back or make a statement with regards to this. While he has come to terms with the loss to Edwards, Usman is still eyeing a return to the top with another fight soon.
