UFC 229: Conor McGregor vs Khabib Nurmagomedov wasn’t just any other UFC PPV. Even after 5 years, it is still remembered as the biggest night for the pioneer MMA promotion. What made this PPV bigger than the rest was the dark and sinister rivalry between McGregor and Nurmagomedov. Back in the day, ‘The Notorious’ was coming back to the UFC after a handsome payday against Floyd Mayweather in boxing.
Welcoming him back to the Octagon was the undefeated Russian fighter. Moreover, their fierce rivalry had started way before the fight actually happened. Now, 5 years later, it is evident that the beef between the two is still not settled. However, Nurmagomedov hardly addresses this dark episode of life. But recently, he made some shocking statements on his Instagram.

Both McGregor and Nurmagomedov are polar opposite personalities. While ‘The Notorious’ is known for his outspoken nature and outlandish personality, ‘The Eagle’ is far more stoic and composed. However, it seems like the roles have switched, as Nurmagomedov was recently the one to poke his fierce rival with some Instagram stories.
Today marks the 5th anniversary of UFC 229. To celebrate this special occasion, the Russian fighter took an unexpected approach. Recently, he posted a few pictures on his Instagram’s stories. These pictures are snapshots of his dominant performance against McGregor. Moreover, the undefeated MMA star added bold one-liners with each picture.
In the first picture, McGregor is seen getting rocked by a powerful punch that Nurmagomedov landed. With the image, he wrote “The punch they said”. In another picture of Nurmagomedov punching his rival, he wrote “What a punch that is”. Further, he posted the snapshot of the exact moment when McGregor tapped. “And that’s a wrap,” the Dagestan-born wrote.
Lastly, Nurmagomedov finished it off with a picture of him landing shots on a grounded McGregor. “He wanted to chat (on my own). But the dialogue never worked out,” he wrote.
