Jon Jones versus Alex Pereira superfight? If it were to happen and ‘Bones’ won, it would further solidify his legacy. But if Pereira won, he would make history by becoming the first UFC fighter to have been the champion in three divisions. And let’s not forget, he would technically be the first person to defeat Jones (if we can count out Jones’s no-contest and DQ). There is so much the Brazilian can get out of this potential matchup and Jones knows this.

The American wants a big fight, and that’s why Pereira interests him, instead of Tom Aspinall, the heavyweight interim champion, who is naturally supposed to be the next in line. Jones revealed earlier this month, “I just don’t like him and at the end of the day, if I give him the opportunity to fight me, I want to be so compensated-I want to say it, I want that ‘f–k you’ money, honestly.”

At the same time, he has shared that a fight against ‘Poatan’ would be worth it. However, Dana White is skeptical, as the heavyweight champion might be too big compared to the light heavyweight champion. Now Robert Whittaker has shared his thoughts about Jones versus Pereira.

The Brazilian has never faced anyone as elite as Jon Jones, who has exceptional wrestling skills. This is what excites Whittaker. In his conversation on the ‘MMArcade’ Podcast ‘The Reaper’ shared his honest opinion on the potential matchup and said, “I would love to see that fight so bad. Jones vs Pereira, dude, I would love to see that so bad. I would [love to see that fight over Aspinall] only because of how well Pereira is going, and no I don’t want to see Pereira fall, but I want to see him go against a guy that has the wrestling caliber of Jones.”

“Especially at heavyweight, where Jones has even more strength. He was said to be strong as a light heavyweight, I can only imagine, especially with the way he manhandles people like as a heavyweight… Pereira hasn’t been tested by someone like Jones. I am not talking standard-wise. He fought the best… He has fought the best strikers in the world. But, I mean like, someone who has got such a high level skill set across the board.”

“Let’s just say I want to see Jones take him down. I want to see if Pereira can give enough threats and worries that Jons can’t get a takedown, or can’t hold takedowns. I don’t see it happening. Like Jones is sensational, especially at heavyweight,” Whittaker opined. That being said, ‘The Reaper’ still believes that Tom Aspinall would be the more difficult fight for the heavyweight champion.

Aspinall became the interim champion of the division in November 2023 after defeating Sergei Pavlovich. Ever since he has been waiting for his title unification bout with ‘Bones’ and he is becoming impatient. Now that Jones versus Stipe Miocic is done, the British fighter is naturally next in line and won’t be too happy if Pereira swoops in.

Currently, Jones doesn’t have any fight announced. People will have to wait for a while before he can get back to the octagon. He is a master at studying his opponents and developing a game plan. However, one key person in his corner has been Brandon Gibson, who rates Alex Pereira very highly. In a recent interview, Gibson broke down the styles of both fighters and also picked his favorite for the clash.

Jon Jones’s style will be a problem for Alex Pereira feels Coach Gibson

Jon Jones is a name synonymous with dominance in the world of mixed martial arts. Since his debut in the UFC in 2008, Jones has shattered records, defeated legends, and cemented himself as one of the greatest fighters to step into the Octagon. Whether it’s landing spinning elbows, outwrestling Olympians, or strategically dismantling rivals, he always finds a way to win. With ‘Bones’ focused on Pereira next, his team is confident that he can keep his winning momentum going. But Brandon Gibson also loves watching Pereira fight.

During an interview, Coach Gibson praised the light heavyweight champion for his difficult journey. He believes that ‘Poatan’ has a variety of skill sets. “Pereira has such dynamite in his hands and with his kicks, incredible pressure, championship mentality.”

“And to see what he’s accomplished and the streak he’s been on is something that has us excited to go and try to figure out and solve that puzzle. But Jon brings so many tools to the table I think it’s more challenging for another team and set of coaches to try to solve the riddle, the problem that is Jon Jones,” concluded Gibson.

Pereira’s story is one of discipline, resilience, and a refusal to be defined by his past accomplishments. As he sets his sights on new challenges, his journey shows his dedication to his craft. All is needs is Dana White and the UFC matchmakers on his side for about against Jones.
