At 35 years old, Dustin Poirier is left with very limited opportunities to win the lightweight title. However, his last performance at UFC 299 showed no sign of him slowing down. ‘The Diamond’ showed his interest in facing Islam Makhachev after his win.
The champion did respond to the claim but also pointed out the lack of opponents in the division because of UFC 300. Both Makhachev and Poirier exchanged words with each other and even mocked each other on social media. However, a recent X (formerly Twitter) post by Dustin Poirier might hint at a probable fight between the two.
‘The Diamond’ shared a picture of him working out along with a caption that read, “Looks like it’s back to work.” The post has gathered a lot of attention from the fans, and they are now waiting for an official announcement. Poirier has yet to win the lightweight title despite being one of the most talented fighters in the division.

However, it now seems that the 35-year-old might just get an opportunity soon. Poirier, as a fighter, has gathered a lot of fans, and one of his biggest fans is 56-year-old Joe Rogan. During a recent podcast, he pointed out some of the biggest strengths of ‘The Diamond’.
Joe Rogan terms Dustin Poirier ‘Wicked’ in his JRE podcast episode
When Dustin Poirier decided to take on BSD at UFC 299, many felt this was the end for the veteran fighter. However, Poirier proved everyone wrong after he knocked him out in the second round. Before his fight, Joe Rogan took to his famous JRE podcast to share his opinion on ‘The Diamond’. He pointed out one of the biggest strengths of the former interim champion during the podcast. He said, “He’s a dangerous motherf***er, but Poirier has an advantage [in] stand-up.”
The 56-year-old also pointed out the striking prowess of Poirier and said, “Everything is wicked [about Poirier]. His leg kicks are wicked, and his striking is wicked. You can’t beat him.” Rogan then mentioned his stamina and claimed that it was tough to beat him once they entered the third and fourth rounds.
Poirier is without a doubt one of the best fighters in the division. Despite having all the skills, he is still waiting to get his hands on the lightweight title. While his recent post might hint at a possible fight, we are still awaiting an official announcement.
