A former world title challenger – Karolina Kowalkiewicz – returned at UFC 281 after competing in her only UFC title fight at Madison Square Garden. While the Polish star got the nod on the judges’ scorecard, it did not come without a controversy that left Bruce Buffer, Joe Rogan, and millions of fans watching with questions.
Official Decision: Karolina Kowalkiewicz wins by unanimous decision.

Kowalkiewicz started the round by putting on immense pressure and putting down the Argentina-born fighter on the mat and threatening with chokes. Gomez lost two of her UFC fights by choke, thus commentators Joe Rogan & Daniel Cormier praised how the Entram Gym fighter managed herself against the dominant grappling showcase from the Polish Princess.
The Shark Top Team Łódź team fighter, though, has been using her striking to get the job done. That said, even in the last fight Kowalkiewicz submitted her opponent Felice Herrig.
Both the 37-year-old women fighters looked strong in the second round, exchanging strikes. Silvana Gómez Juárez landed a good right hand halfway through the second round. The Polish fighter returned a significant right later in the round. Gomez stuffed all the takedown attempts; the fight did not go to the ground, yet the round was close and could have gone to any fighter.
The final round was a close one. However, Kowalkiewicz got her opponent on the ground and that could have been a difference. And it looked like the judges were confused as well.

That was interesting. Was it an error making the scorecards or did a judge say he wrote the wrong score for each fighter somewhere. The latter topic just came up this week in CSAC session. #UFC281
