Colby Covington will set his foot inside the octagon after a prolonged 21 months of hiatus. Edwards’ remarks so far found their roots in this very thing. Covington’s fight against Edwards will be his fifth fight since 2019. If we consider Covington’s record then he is 2-2 in his last four fights. ‘Choas’ failed to do what Edwards did twice: defeating the boogeyman of the welterweight division, Kamaru Usman.
It must be noted that Covington’s past four fights have been against his bitter enemies. Twice against Kamaru Usman and once against his former buddy and former BMF champion Jorge Masvidal. He was defeated by Usman twice but secured a victory against Masvidal. Despite all of this the fighter remains motivated for his win.
In his most recent escapade, Covington asserted that he wants to be an active champion, unlike Edwards. While in conversation with ESPN, Covington voiced, “I want to be an active champion. I want to turn around and fight in March. I’m in my prime right now, bro, so I’m ready to fight all the best-comers. Bring them all! I want the biggest and best fights UFC has to offer, and I’m going to make the welterweight division great again.”
It seems as if Covington is finally ready to make a name in the world of MMA after his hiatus. Interestingly, Edwards is not the only opponent he wants to fight.

‘Chaos’ believes that Sean Strickland takes things way too far when it comes to rivalry. Covington has since also called out Strickland. He has asserted that Strickland wants to replicate his legacy and in case the fighter doesn’t back off, things might turn physical.
“He’s pretending to be everything he wishes I was. I’d love to slap Sean Strickland around. He’s just a pathetic excuse of a human being, the guy has literally no fricking IQ. The guy’s so f****** stupid. The things he says, he needs to get his mouth wired shut, and I’m the guy to do it. The UFC knows I’m the one that can end these guys that hate the company and they hate the world. So I would love to fight Sean Strickland,” said Covington while in conversation with the Australian publication Code Sports.
