The four-time NBA champion Shaquille O’Neal is one of the greatest of his sport to enter the court. Besides his NBA exploits, the center has also trained in MMA and adopted the nickname ‘Diesel’ in the training gym. However, this is not where his MMA connection ends. In a recently resurfaced video from 2009, fans can see Shaq promoting the WEC championship fight between ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone vs. Benson Henderson.

The NBA star has a wholesome personality that has made him a fan favorite. Apart from the basketball court, he has left imprints on the television as well as the business industry. Besides his on-the-court and off-the-court success, his knack for humor is also adored.

Shaq has been an avid MMA fan since his introduction to MMA in 1996 by another UFC legend, Vitor Belfort. Not only that, he has built a close relationship with UFC president Dana White.

The resurfaced video of Shaquille O’Neal

In the resurfaced video, Shaquille O’Neal is promoting the WEC 38 championship bout between ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone and Benson Henderson. The fans can see his usual fun-loving and carefree style in the promotion video.

‘The Big Aristotle’ asked the viewers, “You don’t know what WEC means? Let me explain it to you: World Extreme Cagefighting. You still don’t know that?”

What followed was a display of some punching boxing and MMA skills. For the purpose of illustration, Shaq threw a couple of body blows and a punch, followed by an uppercut.

In the next frame, viewers can see him holding a golden belt over his shoulder. While flaunting the WEC championship belt, Shaquille O’Neal stated the details of the fight.

Hence he said, “See this lovely piece of jewelry aka the championship belt. Guess who’s fighting for? One of my favorites, Donald, heehaw, ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone against. He’s not fighting, oh a little wimp now, he is fighting my main man, Ben Henderson.”

Further, the 7-foot-1-inch tall athlete declared that both the title contenders were lucky, as he was a heavyweight.

While concluding the video, Shaq left a cheeky remark, “Who knows you might see me there.

While fans may not be aware of the now-defunct fighting promotion but WEC was purchased by Zuffa in 2006. Later on, Zuffa subsequently merged the promotion with UFC in 2010.

Interestingly, the fans saw Shaw celebrating Nate Diaz‘s victory over Conor McGregor at UFC 196. Furthermore, he also took an Octagon challenge against UFC veteran Forrest Griffin in 2018.
