Michel Pereira has been working hard to aid in the ongoing rescue and relief efforts in Brazil. Pereira recently fought Ihor Potieria at UFC 301 in Rio de Janeiro on May 4 and secured a massive first-round win by finishing his opponent with a guillotine choke. However, his vacation plans in his home state of Para were cut short because of the historic floods that occurred in Rio Grande do Sul.
According to reports available online, the floods have devastated dozens of towns and more than 2.1 million people have been affected by the destruction. As such, Pereira has joined in the relief efforts, and in a recent update on social media, he highlighted the massive toll the natural disaster has taken on the area.

News reports from Brazil indicate that the unprecedented rainfall between April 22 and May 6, equivalent to five months’ worth, caused the Guaiba Lake to flood, inundating hundreds of cities, including the state capital of Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre. Notable landmarks like the Gigantinho gymnasium, which hosted a UFC event in 2015, and major soccer stadiums, along with hundreds of buildings and roads, are currently submerged in water.
Michel Pereira has been actively sharing updates on his social media account, as he has been engaged in navigating the flooded streets in boats and jet skis with a rescue group. They have been focusing on assisting residents and retrieving stranded animals while dealing with the massive amounts of water that have reached up to 10 feet deep in certain parts.
In a recent post on Instagram, Pereira shared images of the destruction, with the caption, “Never seen such destruction… Never seen so much suffering… never seen so many lives lost…Today was the hardest day of all, but we still managed to do our part.”

Experts from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) have predicted that water levels could stabilize or continue to rise if it rains again. They estimate it might take a month or even more for the water to recede below flood levels.
The combined efforts of residents, federal support, and international attention are crucial in navigating this ongoing crisis and it’s not just ‘Demolidor’ who has helped out in the relief efforts as the UFC light heavyweight champion has also done his part!
