The recent news of Artem Lobov suing his long-term training partner and friend, Conor McGregor, has taken the MMA world by storm. While the development has become the talk of the UFC town, Jorge Masvidal, in particular, is not confounded by the story. After all, the welterweight tighter knows a thing or two about the friends-to-bitter rival tropes.

‘Gamebred’ took to his popular Facebook account as he shared his opinion of the disclosure. Further, the fans could weigh the American fighter’s response to his own similar experience.
What did Jorge Masvidal say about the shattered bromance?
The former title challenger owns a popular Facebook handle where the prolific fighter shares everything remotely related to combat sports. Also, the Miami-born fighter doesn’t shy away to share hot takes on the same handle.

While sharing the McGregor-Lobov legal issue, the MMA fighter penned some words of wisdom. Significantly, he wrote, “It be the closest ones…”
The UFC BMF champion shared a similar shatter bromance with another UFC fighter, Colby Covington. The previously inseparable duo was part of the American Top Team. Not only did the two fighters train together, but also shared rooms.

However, soon the fighters found themselves hurling abuses and eventually clashed in the Octagon at UFC 272.
Masvidal and Covington’s friends-to-rivals expedition
The ugly crack in their close, bonded friendship first went public in Jan 2020 as ‘Chaos’ left the ATT gym. Masvidal, in a conversation with Ariel Helwani, revealed that both fighters had an altercation that resulted in their ejection. However, ‘Gamebred’, later on, was able to return to the gym.

Sharing his side of the story, Covington pointed to his former mate’s ego as the reason for turning their friendship sour. Further, he detailed the incident when he won the interim title belt at UFC 225 against Rafael dos Anjos. According to Covington, while the bunch celebrated, Masvidal didn’t like the hype he generated.

Following this, the MMA Masters product declared, “He [Masvidal] has a big ego and he couldn’t put his ego aside for the friendship.”
The 38-year-old fighter, similarly, also pointed to the same event as the genesis of their feud. The 35-16 record holder had alleged that Covington failed to honor his own words as he didn’t pay the trainer Paulino Hernandez his promised share of $12,500.

Notably, Hernandez trained Covington for his interim title fight. And this ‘betrayal’ for money proved the breaking point for both the Miami fighters.
The same cause would result in another ‘betrayal’ as another training mate would end up suing his closest one.
