UFC fans live for moments like these—where fighters drop more than just punches, but witty comebacks too. And it looks like Umar Nurmagomedov has landed a verbal jab that has the MMA world talking! The undefeated Dagestani bantamweight has been making waves in the UFC and is coming off a spectacular win over Cory Sandhagen at UFC on ABC 7 in August.

Now, holding the no.2 spot in the division, Nurmagomedov is poised to take a crack at championship glory against Merab Dvalishvili. In his recent appearance on the ‘Pound 4 Pound’ podcast with Kamaru Usman and Henry Cejudo, the Dagestani contender had everyone in stitches as he came to the defense of none other than the newly crowned welterweight king, Belal Muhammad. What happened?

The exchange took place as Usman confidently reminded everyone that despite a brief break, he was still the boss of the welterweight division. With an air of confidence, Usman stated, “Next year, I’ll come back, inshallah, and show these guys I’m still the boss.” Enter Nurmagomedov, with a grin that hinted he was about to steal the spotlight. The Dagestani fighter chuckled and said, “Sorry brother, but right now, you’re not. Belal is.”

The playful dig left Usman momentarily stunned, while fans and co-host Henry Cejudo erupted with laughter. Here’s a look at what the MMA sphere had to say online about Nurmagomedov’s shot that came out of nowhere!

Umar Nurmagomedov has Belal Muhammad’s back as fans left laughing at Kamaru Usman being ‘trolled’

Former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley joined in the laughter as he commented on the post to show his appreciation for the not-so-subtle jab by Umar Nurmagomedov. Woodley had lost the 170 lbs. title to Usman back in 2019 when they faced off at UFC 235. While he didn’t manage to regain the title, losing his next 3 fights and leaving the promotion, it seems like Nurmagomedov’s ‘trolling’ of Usman brought some happiness to Woodley after all.

What’s your perspective on:

Did Umar Nurmagomedov just prove he's the king of trash talk by trolling Kamaru Usman to his face?

“Tyron Woodley: “bhahahahahhhah”

Others referenced Belal Muhammad’s nickname as they pointed out that Umar Nurmagomedov made sure to give a shout-out to the new welterweight kin-“Umar remembered the name”. In the past, Muhammad has worked with ‘Team Khabib’ to prepare for his fights, and before he took the crown from Leon Edwards, he had shared in an interview with MMA Junkie, “Those guys don’t let you take any days off or any easy rounds. That’s always perfect for me. Last time I trained with those guys, we got a dominant finish…”

As such, the fans weren’t too surprised at Nurmagomedov coming to Muhammad’s defense, keeping in mind their long hours spent in training together, “UMAR DEFENDED HIS BROTHA.” Do you think we’ll see ‘Team Khabib’ supporting Muhammad further as he continues his reign atop the welterweight division?

It’s no secret that Umar Nurmagomedov’s honesty adds another layer to his growing reputation in the UFC- “What I like about that they will tell what their heart says No matter who you are” While many fighters shy away from speaking out against their peers, the Dagestani fighters have no such hesitation. When Merab Dvalishvili recently claimed that Nurmagomedov wasn’t “deserving” of a shot at the bantamweight belt, he responded by simply stating on X, “When Merab’s friend, Topuria fought for the title, after 6 consecutive wins, and beating only one top 5 ranked opponent Josh Emmet, I don’t remember that Merab was desperately protesting against such ‘unfairness’.”

Others found it incredibly funny that Belal Muhammad was the one who shared the video on his personal Instagram account, adding another layer to the hilarious interaction, “Belal is hilarious for posting this.”

Whether he’s defending Belal Muhammad or taking shots at rivals, the Dagestani bantamweight’s willingness to speak his mind has seemingly endeared him to the fans.
