However, now that Nurmagomedov’s time on the throne has come to an end, a new leader must rise to lead the Dagestani team. The former champion’s cousin recently revealed the name of the one who would succeed ‘The Eagle’.
Although the new leader was elected soon after Nurmagomedov got inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame, the name was never really revealed to the public. Recently, Umar Nurmagomedov revealed the successor during an interview.

Umar Nurmagomedov revealed that the team’s responsibility now rested on the shoulders of Islam Makhachev. He reasoned that it was because he was the current UFC champion. Talking to a Russian media outlet, Sports24, he said, “Now this responsibility falls on Islam Makhachev. The reason is, he is the UFC champion and now he will lead the team. This task is his burden.”
Furthermore, the former champion’s cousin also shone some light on how his brother was, in fact, a tough mentor who never forgave an absence. Moreover, he assured the world that the Dagestani team was one that included only professionals who fight at the highest levels. He said that everything was maintained in the team.
Finally, he spoke about Nurmagomedov’s retirement plans. Although stepping down from the position of team leader doesn’t mean ‘The Eagle’ would quit training altogether, his time at the gym would greatly reduce. He said, “The only thing is that Khabib will spend more time at home. He’s going to take care of himself and his family.”

At the beginning of the new year, Nurmagomedov took to Instagram and posted a picture of his team, thereby declaring his retirement. He wrote, “Concluding the year. Thank you, you were a big reason for my success in sports.”
