It is an exciting time for the UFC right now. There are so many things happening – so many things changing for the promotion. New champions are being crowned and surprising wins are the order of the day. Amidst all this, there is one fight that the fans are really excited about, but from the looks of it, that fight might not see the light of day.

We are talking about the highly anticipated lightweight bout between former lightweight champ Conor McGregor and his TUF rival Michael Chandler. This fight would mark the return of the Irish fighter to the UFC, after 2 long years away from it. But things don’t look promising in that direction and it might be affecting the entire lightweight division of the UFC – at least that is the concern that lightweight fighter Renato Moicano brought to light.

One thing that Conor McGregor can really do well is hype a fight. For example, his fight against Michael Chandler has been on the cards for a while now. And although there is a lot of ambiguity there, that fight is all the fans can talk about. McGregor returning to the UFC could do wonders for the promotion as well. However, there is an angle that a lot of people are overlooking.

UFC lightweight fighter Renato Moicano recently shed light on the way this feud and its inability to convert into a fight is affecting the rest of the division. In an interview with TheMMAHour, Moicano said, “The division is a mess right now. We have guys like Michael Chandler, he’s delusional right now. Conor (McGregor) is not going to fight him. Maybe never. I don’t know. Conor is on another level of craziness right now… he loves the attention but he doesn’t like to fight anymore. Chandler, get over it, my brother. You’re not going to have this fight.“.

The situation he is referring to is the fact that Michael Chandler is getting desperate to fight Conor McGregor. Meanwhile, McGregor is enjoying his riches and the good life, far away from the UFC, while dangling the hopes of a big fight for Chandler, in front of him. Also, his failure to join the USADA pool upset a lot of plans for the UFC (possibly).

When Justin Gaethje won the BMF belt against Dustin Poirier, McGregor started calling out Gaethje. He wanted to fight Gaethje next and become the BMF champion. Meanwhile, Michael Chandler was waiting for an opportunity to fight McGregor – and their fight was as good as made. Then, McGregor announced his plans.

He said he would fight Chandler first, then win the BMF belt from Gaethje, and finally, complete the trilogy fight with Nate Diaz. He also recently said that the Michael Chandler fight would ‘obviously’ be the first one. Although it seems unlikely, McGregor has said that he wanted to fight this year.

The fans had hopes that McGregor would return this year. However, the UFC CEO Dana White clarified recently, that he had been saying, right from the offset that McGregor would not be making his return this year and that his fight against Chandler would not be until next year. These contradicting statements highlight the confusion that has been clouding this bout for months. What do you think of McGregor’s return? Let us know in the comments.
